They have to be have been released as singles to qualify.

My favourite contenders are:

Chameleons - Swamp Thing (1986)
and
New Order - Bizarre Love Triangle also in 1986.

Both songs get a massive amount of play in Manchester, especial y the Swamp Thing played in both indie and rock clubs which is rare a thing.

I find it hard to believe that this single only made it to No 24 in the UK charts, and I don't think it even made to Billboard top 100 across the pond -

A lot of Bowie's stuff was ahead of time though. I am shocked at that though, I would have expected it to chart higher.
