Srtictly speaking the ruling is about unlawful detention; the fact that detention was due to immigration status may be peripheral. Howver given the guy's antecedents it does look odd even from my perspective as the forum's resident lefty.

It's possible the full judgement might say more about the background and go some way to explain. Will have a look on Bailli when I get home.

Some of these "Judges" are "out of it" as regards society today! - obviously by his record he (immigrant) is a "wrong-un" - he didn`t come here to start a useful new life, he came here to "thieve and scam" - Throw the "book " at him and deport him to any of the countries he claimed he came from! He gave them plenty of choices!!

Ah, you missed out on the "but", and "on the other hand" thus not allowing an escape route. BTW, the head and some below him, of the Border Agency have been suspended. For abandoning the concept of border it seems: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-15601988

The senior guy who's been suspended is head of the UK Border Force - the operational on frontier desks etc. The Chief Exec of the Agency which also covers Visas, deportation etc, Rob Whiteman remains in post.

Not a jib at you NT, I had to look it up after hearing an MP spouting utter balls about it on 5Live.

He started from the premise that the suspendee was the Chief Executive then used that as a platform to 'go off on one' about Public Appointments generally.

SFAIK the Border, as opposed to the border, is a place where you enter UK and need a passport to do so.

Border as in Frontier. The name UK Frontiers Agency received only the briefest consideration ;o)
