Rediscovering an old vinyl LP - legacylad
On a whim I recently bought Dark side of the moon. I bought it as a young 'un when originally released, and had not heard any of it for probably a decade! Surprisingly I could almost remember it word for word. Money well spent.
I will have a look through my vinyl, stored in the loft, to see if there is anything else I am missing!

Yep, I've done the same - downloaded all those LPs, and put onto DVDs as MP3s.
Amazing what stuff one forgets, and how enjoyable it is after many years 'away'.

That reminds me i wanted a record player ermmmm.

Not paying a fortune for one can you still get parts easy enough?

I suspect getting parts for an old one would be hard work. There are plenty of new USB examples, aimd at the digitisation market, in the shops - Aldi had one on offer quite recently. Very much doubt they'd output HiFi quality to an amp though.

Richer Sounds seem to have a range running to £150+. Are Linn stil in business?

Linn are still in business. There are lots of people making decent vinyl decks. Project and Rega are probably the best budgety ones. Not sure about richersounds for decent vinyl replay though.

Ebay is usually a good place to find spares.

Depends on which deck you have as to whether you can find bits for it or not. I've got an old systemdek and I can still get odds and ends.

Richer used to be OK for stuff that was a cut above the sheds without going stratospheric/diminshing returns. Are they no longer so good?

Will be much better than the sheds but probably not offer the choice of specialists... they only offer Project really. The rest are no names or usb decks which I'm not sure would be much good.

I have an Ion USB deck - works fine.

you can now get Gramaphones that will play your favorite LPs and burn them to Audio CD at the same time - just like you used to record from record player to cassette! theyre about £200 though!

Like the Pug, I have an Ion. Does the job admirably and although I haven't used it for a couple of years, I'm pretty certain you play the LP in at 45rpm and put it onto CD at the correct 33 rpm.

...Are Linn stil in business?...

Certainly are, and still making top quality turntables.

They caused a minor stir a while ago when they announced the cessation of CD deck production.

It was taken in audiophile circles as another sign the CD is on its way out.

Linn are concentrating on hard drive and streaming players instead.

Over the last three years I have gathered quite a decent (to my ears) hifi. With the exception of the speakers, all bought from ebay. Its has been very nice listening to my vinyl, though I have given up on tapes now.

I still prefer to buy the cd rather than downloading, as I like to read the tracklist etc, and its good to have a physical back up should the computer go pop/get pinched.
