In basic terms, it seems from the leaflet that they lease your roof for 25 years and get some cut of the electricity generated in return for free system installation.

Only thing is, im a cynic and it sounds too good to be true. What you guys reckon?

I have just run some figures through a feed in tariff calculator, you would save about £120 a year on your electricity bill. Over 25 years they would make a profit of about £36,000.

On average people move house every 8 years. Most of us on this forum will probably be dead in 25 years and don't think you can take your panels with you when you move to the Sunshine Home for the Terminally Befuddled so don't think I will bother

I hope not! I'd mid sixties then! Rattle younger still. But then again you said 'most'.

I will be nearly 91......I intend to spend my days at the gate in a wicker bath chair, shouting abuse at passers-by and brandishing my gnarled walking stick at them.

Well, every man needs a hobby !

I will be in my mid 50's by then sat in my cold freezing flat with a clapped out 1.1 Fiat engine out of an old Panda being used to provide the electricity for heating as at £300 per KW/Hour I won't be able to afford it!.

Either I am not one for long term planning such as solar panels. Those that plan every detail of their lives tend to drop down dead before they get to see the fruits of their labour. Or get struck with MS or something.

Yes, it'll be getting on for 10,000 miles by then. Knackered.

Think he'll be beating me too. Since moving to this village where I can walk or cycle for all my daily needs, and concentrating on the post move sort out rather than going places, I've averaged 4 miles a day for the past month. Just 113 miles total in 4wks as opposed to 1200 miles a month for the past 2+yrs!

Brilliant.

Careful, that funny liquid regen thing on the C5 will act up. :)

Assuming I've remembered correctly and you do have a C5 diesel.

Under the new low mileage regime it will be worth giving whatever car you have a blast now and again, as I'm sure you know.

Oh yes indeed... still got the C5 HDi. As I said all walking/cycling... to paper shop, supermarket, doctors, estate agents. Car only goes out for anything outside the village... but in fairness these trips are still only 10-15mls so it's something that needs watching.

This is the first time since my 20s when it wouldn't matter if I was running a petrol at 23mpg.
