Our Grundig Skybox appears to have passed away, last night it was working fine, today, no life anywhere!
First i changed the fuse in the plug, no difference, then i tried a completly different power cable that i know works, no change - box dead.
Is there an easy to get at internal fuse? or is it totally kaput? could it be repaired, is it worth it?
Sigh! dishwasher packed in yesterday as well!!

Now if that was me I would be worrying what the third thing was going to be:)

if its not the fuse, no, they can be got for tuppence.,
take out your satellite lead, it could be shorting it out.

Think I might have a thomson skybox somewhere if you need a replacement. Yonks old but was working when it was used last. Also have a pace one I think too but that is even older!
Try your local freecycle first. They might have some going spare as people upgrade and get rid of the old ones.

Is it one of the following models?
GDS200, GDS300, GDS310, GDS2000, GDS3000, DSI4210, DSI4212
If so, then there is a known issue with the power supply.

Happened to an olds Sky box I had. Phoned Sky and they wanted £150 to upgrade to Sky+. Wasn't prepared to pay that so they put me through to cancellations and they offered me an upgrade to Sky+ for £50 ;o)

Phone Sky. When they try to charge you for the callout, refuse to pay it. Argue for a bit, then ask to be put through to cancellations. Stand your ground, and you will get it repaired FOC. No business worth its salt would lose a £30 (average) monthly subscription over waiving an engineer callout fee.
In our case, the engineer walked in, confirmed the box was kaput, grunted a couple of times, walked out to his van, walked back in with a spanking new unit which he unboxed in front of us, and 2 mins later, we were up and running again.

If you don't get anywhere - I've got an identical box - yours for the postage and a contribution to some charity or somesuch.

Phoned the local electrical "Tinkerer" to see if he could suggest anything, and we now have an old Pace box in free exchange for our old dead one, so at least we have TV for Saturday night!
Although this old box works, jeepers is it slow! takes a good few seconds to load a page or change a channel after the button is pressed. Will try to force it to do an update tommorrow, in the hope that it may cure it ( or kill it!)
Meanwhile our replacement dishwasher is making a funny whining sound!

If the whining goes on too long other applications in the house might stop working.

Their kits work nicely so long as you specify exactly the right power supply version.
Quite satisfying to do if you are happy with a soldering iron.

Have called sky before and refused to pay for a callout, so asked to cancel - they actualy put you through to a department called customer retentions who are able to authorise free repairs, half price pacakages etc.
My box was bust, so they guy just got another one out the van and swapped it. Left me his mobile number to as he said if I had any problems in the next 30 days and called sky he would lose some of his call out fee, but after 30 days then call sky direct.
Appears to be skys way of weeding out some of its poorer engineers
