Today we can have over hundreds of models of cars, washing machines, fridges, TVs, cameras etc.
But if we want to buy computers, we are limited by Windows and Apple (Linux is still not that mainstream).
If we want to buy a smartphone, it has to be amongst Symbian, Android, iOS or Blackberry.
Why for few things we are so limited of what we can buy?

Well, an infinite number of operating systems wouldn't really work, would it?
Cars are no different. 99.99% run on petrol or diesel, they all have the brake, accelerator and steering wheel in the same place and anybody who makes one that doesn't won't have much success.

Cars are exactly like computers, there were hundreds of makes at one time, now there are only a few, but as pointed out, they all use the steering wheel operating system.
