The cream coloured Lemon sized thing on the left,
Our neighb gave us the veg including a HUGE Marrow,
So far I've made 2 different Marrow soup recipes and 2 quite scrummy apple pies using a Linda McCartney recipe,
Good innit :-)

Could well be gb, I'll have to ask Betty, but at the mo she's out early & back late b'cos her skin n' blister has just had a ginormous cist removed from her ovaries :(
Betty herself is no spring chicken either - needs a stair/chair lift to get upstairs!
|
We're all going to get older and more frail whether we like it or not, i like the sound of Betty mind, a proper stick....you'll be able to repay the kindnesses in the winter when you're the only one able to get about.
Is it the cist from the Sist then..:-)
|
>>Is it the cist from the Sist then..:-) <<
LOL ... Betty is Cornish born & bred (strong in the arm etc..) been here 40 years, has loads of sprogs grandsrogs probably greatgrandsprogs as well no doubt - luvly people the Cornish (the real Cornish that is :)

Looks more fruit than root to me - there's a scar at the right-hand end that looks like where a stalk was attached. Could it be a squash or gourd of some kind?
|
>>Looks more fruit than root to me<<
This gets more intriguing! - wifey thinks it's a fruit too, I'll have the answer before the bell tolls the nell of parting day.

Looks like some sort of squash to me.
Over here they tend to use them as table decorations, rather than eat them.
|
Well, it's been decorating our kitchen worktop for nigh-on 2 weeks now :)
|
Nice neighbours Dog.Enjoy the food.Got me thinking about my grandparents before fridges etc.
They used to store summer food in sealed jars for winter in the cellar.
|
We had the Pantry over here Dutchie, never had one ourselves mind en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pantry
Good neighbs are priceless!

"Though considered a vegetable in cooking, botanically speaking, squash is a fruit (being the receptacle for the plant's seeds)".
"The English word "squash" derives from askutasquash (a green thing eaten raw), a word from the Narragansett language, which was documented by Roger Williams, the founder of Rhode Island, in his 1643 publication A Key Into the Language of America. Similar words for squash exist in related languages of the Algonquian family such as Massachusett".

It's an Iceland chicken in a tight plastic wrapper.
|
I'd guess it's a squash too. Good for soup or, seeds and skin removed, roasting with other veg like carrots, parsnips or sweet potatoes.
|
Its a squash, almost certainly the variety known as vegetable spaghetti. If you cut it open you will find long noodle like strands which can be cooked
|
I was thinking it looked rather like an apple cucumber....
|
>>Its a squash, almost certainly the variety known as vegetable spaghetti. If you cut it open<<
Yes, I noticed that on the site devonike posted - I'll opereate on the critter later.
|
Hmm! good ole Google! the link i posted yesterday now points to a tastier dish!
|
It's an alien spore. East it and aliens grow inside you.
|
I was thinking along the same lines actually, that's why it's still on my kitchen worktop,
can't be too careful these days, can you.
I'll give it to the wife later, see if she developes any symptoms, like.
|
LOL
Hope she does not read this thread...

I'll send it to her, and post her reply :

Is it not a white aubergine?
|
My mone£ is on a vegetable spaghetti squash Mm - I'll dissect it later and all will be revealed.
|
Don't get your hopes up too high Dog. Have grown them and they are interesting novelty but wouldn't bother again.
Butternut squash far superior.
|
>>Butternut squash far superior<<
Yes, I've made Butternut squash soup before, and it was too nice!
|
Roasted butternut squash is lovely: just make sure you use either 1 cal. spray oil or a mere smidgen of other oil, or the result will be too greasy to enjoy.

It would be a very small spaghetti squash - the ones I have grown were all large melon sized ....
Cannot wait to see the autopsy pictures!
Incidentially, white aubergine doesn't work as it has not got the leaves on one end, which are usually very well attached!

And her reply was: "And to think I thought everyone else was an alien but it was me all along!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hey ho I’m off to the home planet at 5.00"
She must have misread it somehow I reckon, anyway I've got an operation to perform, and will post the details ASAP!

How did the lemon-sized object smell, Perro?
|
AW! - you cut it the wrong way!!
|
>>How did the lemon-sized object smell, Perro? <<
It looked like a fruit, so I tasted it, and it niffed & tasted like a vegetable :)
>>AW! - you cut it the wrong way!!<<
Now he tells me!
|
Ah. Not like a lemon, then - which is what it looks like on my little screen.
