Who Needs Fathers? On BBC 2 - Stuu
Just watching it at the moment. As a father who may well become estranged in the future, its very interesting to listen to the guy who has never met his father and how he feels about it.
Infact, interesting prog all over really.
It sort of makes me squirm in a way as its quite emotional seeing how much some of these guys want a dad and seem to have had it taken away.

Just started reading Clive James autobiography. He was born in 1939 and his dad killed in the early days of the war, so he has no recollection of him at all. Although my parents died relatively young, at least I got to know them.

I do like Clive James writing a lot. A very clever man.

I assume you mean you are reading 'Unreliable memoirs' Aretas which is Volume 1 of his autobiography.

His Cambridge days were covered in 'May Week is in June'which I believe is Volume 2 .

He is now up to volume 5 called' Blaze of Obscurity.'

In Volume 4 called North Face of Soho he recalls finally getting to see his fathers grave in the Far East and the emotions he felt then . its quite a moving piece of writing.

"The Crystal Bucket", a collection of some of his TV criticism when he was a newspaper columnist, is also worth a look.

Yes i watched it too but was hoping it was a bit more involved with the legal side of things for a few pointers for myself but nice to see he saw his dad after 29 years.

Glad to see you found your way to that forum Bigtee btw. You should write a proper inro over there, ive kept looking for one since I sent ya there!

I must admit, I found that guy in tears meeting his dad for the first time rather emotional, you could see how much it meant to him and I was so happy that it went well for him.
It was also nice to see some kids who would clearly otherwise be up to no good, finding some stability in that youth worker - more people like him please, even if he didnt believe in himself enough.

My wife lost her father when she was less than one year old. Leukemia got him.

40 years later it is clear that some children who were the product of a single parent upbringing but where the father or mother died are generally better brought up and more able to cope with family life than those where the parents divorced or split up and there is a great deal of animosity between the parents.

I have an number of divorced friends and the children really suffer, unless the parents work hard to make life easy for the children.

Humph. I look after my boy, aged 8 1/3, a lot more often than his mummy does. It's hard work, but enormously good.

For the legal side of things, you need:

o - a good soliciter specialising in family law, who's a) a member of Resolution (previously: Solicitors Family Law Association), and b) a fully qualified collaborative lawyer.

o - to personaly be in a state to be able to reach an agreement with the opposition, which may entail some "give and take".

I would not pick a very young soliciter, or one who's about to retire.

The above will help enormously with your family relationships and wellbeing, as well as preserving the contents of your bank account.

A good soliciter will help you to help all concerned.

All IMO/E, of course.
