 I don't get this.... - R.P.
Forgive me as I am not a follower of soccer - but I find some player behaviour very odd. I refer to when another player is applauding some good play from another player...They clap above the head (which I almost understand) but they carry a look on their face completely at odds with what should be a moment of unbounded joy, almost a stern certainly an unsmiling expression....very serious at least....anyone understand what's happening here..

...Just like this one...

I suspect in this instance the player - Peter Crouch, a striker - is signalling to a team mate who is about to take a corner kick.

The signal will mean something like kick the ball to the near post, or far post, or drop it on the penalty spot, or six-yard line.

This gives a tactical advantage because Crouch can lurk somewhere else, then make his run just before the ball is kicked, knowing where the ball is heading.

Crouch is unable to "lurk" anywhere. He sticks out like a Pylon in a wheat field.

Only Uglier.

...Only Uglier...

His missus - and various kiss and tell stories - suggests he has some attraction to the opposite sex.

Can't think what that could be.

That picture of Crouch is the look of a player applauding his own club's fans, acknowledging their support, after they have been beaten. Joyous looks on faces are not the order of the day in those circumstances, but the acknowledgement is appreciated by us fans.

I suspect that picture was taken after Spurs were dumped on their backsides out of the FA Cup last season, 4-0 away to Fulham. A total annihilation. A joy to have been there. For me, but not for Peter Crouch.

Probably true, but I prefer my version.

The answer to which is "Heurelho Gomes".

Very droll, although there's a few Tottenham fans - including me - who agree with you.

2nd attempt! - The applauding player (usually a striker) is applauding a good pass from a team mate, which, if he had played correctly, would probably have led to him scoring. The stupid look on his face is the realisation that a roasting is probably coming his way at the end of the game. If the error results in a win anyway, it will be a ticking off to concentrate more, if the error results in a drawn or lost game, - beware flying boots ala Fergie!
