 Monitored alarm system - Mapmaker
Anybody know anything about these? I've (been) volunteered to do some research.

Insurance company insist on a monitored alarm system. The suppliers of the currently installed system which has previously been monitored want £225+VAT reconnection fee, £295 plus VAT per annum for the monitoring and a maintenance contract of £240 + VAT. Plus it needs a dedictaed phoneline - or else there is a blip once a minute.

That's £800 per annum, plus connection fee. Seems a bit steep for sitting there doing nothing.

Change insurance company. You'll save a load of money. Why are they insisting on this? I renewed insurance and switched to Barclays and got it down to less than £400pa for buildings and contents (both with accidental damage cover and a lot more).

Even the extra phone line is an expensive additional requirement.

Indeed - shop around! Friend of mine just got bldgs and contents on a £170k house for £86 and paid extra for legal cover, came to about £120 in all. House has an alarm which doesn't connect to a control centre and isn't on a maintenance contract Perhaps it is something to do with your exotic wine cellar? >:) !!!

We get legal cover and have an alarm. Don't tell the burglars but it cannot be left on because we have a cat. The motion sensors won't tolerate her :-) We probably ought to pay for someone to create a new alarm zone that's just the sensors on the doors (cellar, backdoor, conservatory, front door) and the cellar motion sensor - don't want anyone stealing the wine ;-)

No radio alarm?
I pay about 6 pints a month-worth for alarm, linked to an radio signaller in the attic.
If anything untoward happens, they phone and send somebody around to the fortress to check it out.
Have all the panic buttons, door and window swittches, and a siren and flashing light on the roof.
Yeah, crime-ridden SA, but the scrotes know that the local security companies tend to do the SFAQL thing...

Got it in one!

If somebody has come over the 8 ft wall around my premises, then got through the burglar bars or safety gates, then he's up to no good.
