Me too, except in my case, it would be
Mexico. Really. Fancy that.
|
It was just a trip over the border into Tijuana, which is a kind of Mexican Blackpool for Yanks.
Far better than Blackpool tho ( I have never been to Blackpool)
Yes Cuba is a good idea for a place to visit. I have added it to my holiday bucket list.

Zero I insist you spend a few nights in Blackpool at Bank Holiday time, trust me you will really love it. Plenty of fights, short skirts and dodgy burgers.
God help me, I am going there in a couple of weeks, but only because it where this festival is. Thankfully the chavs won't have a chance with 10,000 punks in the area.

I am mortified that I'm such a poorly travelled person compared with the globe-trotters on this forum.
France, Spain, Cyprus, Malta (Born there!), Gibraltar, Malaysia, Singapore

Nothing to be mortified about, there are enough places in the UK that I have not visited to keep me occupied for the rest of my natural. I know some locals who have not been as far as England.

Agree with ON. I retire soon and apart from an occasional foreign jaunt we intend to travel the UK. There are many places I want to see here which of course doesn't involve the airport rigmarole which is becoming very tiresome. If only the weather could be a little kinder.
|
I am the same, there are too many places I still need to visit in the UK before I go abroad again, places like Norfolk, the Highlands, more of Cornwall, the Kent coast, South Wales, Northern Ireland etc.

Whole British mainland, both Irelands. Crosed the US by road in my own car both ways, route 80 to San Francisco and route 66 back. France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Switzerland. Algeria, Egypt, Sudan, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand. Nigeria, Ghana, Benin, Togo, Chad, Cameroun, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Mozambique, Zambia. Those are the countries I know I have set foot in since age 7. I have looked across their borders into South Africa and Swaziland and seen Somalia and Yemen from the sea. Damn hot down there. I may have set foot in Mali, Mauritania and Western Sahara, but there aren't customs or borders down there especially if you are with the people I was with. Of the others, the only one I entered illegally, for about two hours, was Cameroun. Nipped across the river from Chad in a dugout punt (anyway the guy poled it so you can't really say it was a canoe).
Driven in most of those places. When I didn't drive it would often - but not always - have been better if I had. But that's life.

I do hope you will forgive me h. The Barmy is spelt, er, Barmy. It is I understand a reference to the fishermen. Pedantry was never my strong point.

Thanks for correcting my fat fingers effort. Teach me to check things.
I have no other excuses as I used to visit there when it was the venue for Twickenham Cycle Club evening meets.

Everyone still calls it the "barmy arms" no matter what they change its name to. Confuses the non locals terribly when you refer to the barmy arms.

On the contrary, I'd go stir crazy now if I didn't get about. I count myself lucky that throughout my adult life I've never had to be in the same place for more than 2 or 3 consecutive days at the most and usually for no more than one day. I've never worked "office" hours. I start when I need to start and finish when I can. I don't have a regular lunch hour and I haven't the faintest idea what my holiday entitlement is. If I need a break I've always just organised myself around it. The downside is that some days are very long but that is compensated for by others which are much shorter.
I love to travel, both for business and pleasure but will admit to a hatred of the process of getting from airport car parks to sitting on a plane. It has become about the most expensive way of being humiliated.
|
We used to have a plate on the wall (.Mensen die veel reizen verslijten veel schoenen.)
People who travel a lot wear out many shoes.;)
Going on a plane like cattle to slaughter yuk.

It is not so bad if you turn left at the top of front steps :-))))
e.g I have in the past done a day trip to Johannesberg
