 Parapraxis - ....
I've just received an email from an agency looking for a Senior Project manager in Edinburgh.

Included in the text the following caught my eye:
"a deep understanding of project management mythologies and processes (e.g. Prince, PMP, Waterfall, Agile)"

At a guess it's to do with the trams. They seem to be fairly mythological...

Most project management processes are mythology.

The Pharaohs never had Prince2 and the pyramids went up on time.

They worked with something called common sense.
I'll bet no cost/benefit analysis, endless planning meetings and gate reviews went into a pyramid.

You are knowledgeable Zeddo.

I always thought they tended to be several years late despite the execution of many foremen, the death from exhaustion of even more masons, and life-sapping orgies of onanism by the high priests to hurry things along on the spiritual plane.

But we live and learn, we live and learn...

they were never late because there was no planned completion date, executions and deaths were not counted as there was no resource plan.

But if you wish, the Victorians never had prince2 or MS project either.

No public money in those days. It could be very hairy for capitalists trying to break new ground. Not surprising Brunel died in his forties despite the health-giving stogies he chomped.

I think it should have said "methodologies" not "mythologies".

I can't help but see the irony in everyone including the private sector asking for PMs with Prince2.

Prince2 was initially developed in 1989 by the Central Computer and Telecommunications Agency (CCTA) as a UK Government standard for information systems (IT) project management. The UK Government does not have a great track record for delivering IT projects on time or within budget.

Agreed, but it's a useful keyword for the CV searching cyberbots or whatever, so I leave it on my CV.

My favourite misspelling on job descriptions is 'principle engineer', this is usually accompanied by a requirement for 'attention to detail/', seen this a few times recently.

That seems quite likely escargot.

But what difference do typos and illiteracies make when a long series of hopefuls trying to spout a uniform sort of blather are going to pass before a group of 'executives' until, via a complex process in which boredom, incomprehension and veiled but violent interpersonal rivalries all play important roles, a more or less random choice will be made? Not much, it seems to me.

It pays the bills AC.

You misunderstand me gmac. I was talking about what I can remember of the corporate recruitment process, not about this job which may be fine for those qualified to do it. If you fancy it and apply for it I hope you get it and it turns out as good as you hope.
 Parapraxis - ....
I'm pulling your leg AC.
You're spot on about the process, in my job I frequently have to interview for contracts, as a few people who post on here will, so interviews aren't the big, scary meeting some people view them as.
I've been to a few where the people interviewing are totally bored out of their skull and it shows. You can see the I don't want to be here look in their eyes from the moment you walk into the room.

You should have heard some of the phrases the management came out with when my employer adopted the business process re-engineering philosophies of Mike Hammer and his cronies.
