In the market for a new bathroom suite and looking around I see that the coloured suite is now totally extinct. Its white or nothing. Who ordains these things? Why do I have to have a bathroom that looks like a hospital sluice room?
What are the merits of steel v acrylic baths?
|
When I think of different colour's of bathroom suite I am reminded relative's houses where they chose what they thought was a nice colour only to hate it 5 years down the line.
Steel baths do cool the water more, most noticeable if you only put a bit of water in (i.e. bathing a baby) I do prefer steel baths though, acrylic baths seem flimsy to me.

We had a primrose yellow suite in the last place, I quite liked it actually and didn't change it.
White always looks 'the part' though IMO.
I quite like Gold (colour) fittings but GLW (good lady wife!) prefers Silver.
|
I'd like a khaki toilet bowl.
Saves on Jeyes fluid.
|
I'd imagine that if you go really high end you can still get any colour you want.
However for the time being the masses have decided that white is the way to go, same as silver cars and hatchbacks instead of saloons...

I am struggling for an answer. This must be a first. I will have a beer and re-think this one.

Are you sure that should be an 'o' there?

God shot? I don't geddit.

I so miss the avocado suite which was in a flat I rented years ago.
All it needed was a Union Jack seat lid and my style statement would have been complete.

We had a resin type sea-shell seat lid when we moved in ere, I quite liked it actually (I'm sad, very, very sad!) but er indoors didn't like it because some of the shells were an unfortunate shade of ... Brown!

Don't mention aitchieboy M - you know the modz don't like it!

Forgot to mention the white plastic taps.

An alternative that does not look like a sluice room - Looks like a byrd bath from Harrods.
|
Looks like it's been nicked out of a medieval church.
|
A bit like Eva Peron's sarcophagus !
We have a cream suite which I put in about 14 yrs ago. It's an acrylic bath, very well made and the beauty is that you can ' wet & dry ' marks out of it.
The Fuhrer wanted gold fittings and shower cabinet....the gold wears off and shows the gunmetal colour underneath. Our taps have smooth cream ceramic tops...another nono for me, difficult to turn when your hands are soapy and you're trying to stop the hot scalding your feet.

Just as it's white only for bathrooms ( which I like) it's now a delicate shade of stainless steel for kitchen appliances, which I hate.
I relented when we replaced the microwave last year because it was the only colour I could get in the type I wanted, and the toaster has also been replaced by SS.
It looks like a youth hostel kitchen and I'll soon end up buying a tube of Autosol instead of Mr Muscle:(

Finger marks on stainless steel can be a problem, too.

Any colour you like ~ including white. www.bathroom-ceramics.co.uk/
Google for coloured bathroom suites.

It's also a good idea to fit the bath so the head end is against the wall.
I've see too many films where a knife murderer can creep up behind you un-noticed !

Good point Ted. Will also avoid shower curtains for same reason.

I presume string orchestras are out too?

Had the same with our kitchen - when we re-did it a few years back, there was a dark green that was all the rage for appliances and accoutrements. Now they are all starting to break, can't find the same colour anywhere. Re-doing the kitchen to match stainless would be a bit costly though.

Acrylic baths come in all sorts of shapes, sizes, thicknesses and qualities. We opted for a Carron coated with "Carronite" for its extra rigidity.

One advantage of a white suite is that you don't get colour matching problems. This gives you the freedom to buy the bath from one manufacturer or catalogue and the ceramic parts from another. In any case, acrylic baths will invariably be made by a different manufacturer from the ceramic parts because of the different manufacturing technologies and expertise involved.
|
To hell with the colour, the most important thing is that you must be able to twiddle the taps with your toes while lying in the bath.
|
Exactly. Traditional crosshead taps, lever taps are much too medical.
|
Having seen ( and had ) some of the colours on offer in the past
(brown, pink, yellow, avocado, grey)
white is fine by me.

True to a large extent, but at Spamcan towers we've got a white basin which looks OK in daylight, but under artificial light it's got a very slight bronze tint, which the 'white' stand it's on doesn't. Looks rather odd to me but SWMBO hasn't complained so it's staying like that.

if she complains tell her to clean it

I'd best check that wifi coverage in the shed is adequate first

Yep, forgot about that, still it's getting mild now spring is here :-)

BOTH Woodburners lit tonight here in North Devon. Mild it ain't.

A mere three degrees in Christchurch this morning, managed eight degrees at Sidmouth donkey sanctuary, along with heavy rain. Classic bank holiday weather.
|
Sharp frost last night at the caravan in freezing North Yorkshire.
Rain started falling heavily an hour or so ago, which at least means it's a bit milder.
