Day out on the coast Lincolnshire - sooty123
Anyone recommend a place on the coast in Lincolnshire for a day trip out? Something along the lines of a couple's day out. Thanks.

Hmmm

I wouldn't, I would find a way south to the North Norfolk coast.

To most folk around here, "seaside" is equal to "skegness" :(

Just moved to Lincolnshire from Norfolk so I know the nice coastline. It's just a bit far, am I hoping for too much? I find it hard to believe there are nowhere as good as Norfolk in Lincolnshire, it's got suc a big coastline.

Almost the only place that isn't mobile homes, fast food and warm beer

Cleethorpes full of people on all dayers and benefit mums shouting and balling at their kids. Not sure about Mablethorpe and Skeggy is slightly better but always busy and nothing special. A friend always raves on about Cromer and a colleague has just spent a week on the coast in Norfolk, he loved it.

There is an engines running but non-flying Lancaster bomber at East Kirkby airfield

I like Cromer, a proper small seaside resort with a pier, lifeboat, fishing boats, a light house and Mary Jane's fish and chip shop. Was there on Monday in fact. Was very hot and humid here in Norwich so drove down to Cromer and spent the afternoon on the pier drinking shandy and eating cockles!

North Norfolk is very nice too in a quieter sort of way. Was at Holkham today which has one of the best beaches in the country. Walked from Holkham to Wells along the beach and back through the pinewoods. Very pleasant place for a low key sort of day.

I love Brancaster beach. or sitting on the terrace of the White Horse at Brancaster Staithe.

If you moved to Linconshire not to far from Bridlington across the Humber Bridge.

Or Spurn Point nice for the day full time life boatstation. The only snag is the Humber Bridge crossing going up to three pound.Beautifull Bridge when it was build the longest single span bridge in the world.Bridlington has a first class fish and chip shop and nice seafront.About 1 hr drive from the Humberbridge.

Sadly in S Lincolnshire, looking like N Norfolk is the best bet.

Exactly what are you looking for in your day out Sooty?

Somewhere nice on the coast where I can take the OH for the day. Holkham looks nice and I remember cromer as being nice as well. Just wondered if there was somewhere similar in Lincolnshire.

Lincolnshire coast is either deserted ( and hence difficult to access but nice and quiet when you do) or chav crapness where its got easy access - cheap and nasty springs to mind. What it lacks most is character or a sense of history or charm.

Wouldn't pay any attention to Chavtowns . According to them everywhere is a chavtown

Guildford?

Harrogate ?,

www.chavtowns.co.uk/2005/02/harrogate/

Taunton?

www.chavtowns.co.uk/2005/02/taunton-a-rough-choice/

or that famously down market home of yobs and binge drinkers, Royal Tonbridge Wells;

I suppose it depends on what you want. Lincolnshire coast line is not short of sandy beaches but Skegness is to Midlands what Blackpool is to the North West. You either like that sort of place or you don't.

Don't take notice of these stupid negative surveys find out for yourself.

I remember Hull was called as one of the worst town to live in.

I believe the Midlands isn't even in the tourist Map for foreigners.

Just Brilliant. Thought I had an opinion. Keep 'em coming Dave me ol' Mate.

Skegness is good at delivering the typical British seaside experience - why else would you go there?

It has the best crazy golf course I've seen for many years, plenty of parking, tat shops, and outlets selling as much unhealthy food as you could ever wish for.

Marvellous.

Agreed, the chavtowns descriptions are wide-ranging, but IMO completely on the money in this case. I would have thought that the typical member of this site and the typical Skeg Vegas punter, have very very little in common.

I had family access to a static caravan there for a few years so I went there rather more often than I would have liked - the place permanently seems to have the same slightly menacing atmosphere as most High Streets do at night.

Cleethorpes - The Last Resort :-)

Ok for a day out but I wouldn't want to spend much longer there. Very much a 'day out' resort. Full of Wessys and Comforts (Come fort day, come fort fortneight). The beach faces onto the river and mouth of the Humber with Spurn Point in the distance. Once heard someone say, "Heyup tha can see France".

Oh and I lived in and worked the area for 15 years.

Had a family holiday in Cleethorpes back in '71, visiting my dad's relations; my two enduring memories are trying to find our static caravan on a site the size of Belgium, and standing on the beach trying to see the sea, which pretty much disappears over the horizon at low tide.

I've never had the urge to go back.

>> Comforts (Come fort day, come fort fortnight)

And Chizzits. (When considering the purchase of a souvenir, they often utter the phrase "I'm a Chizzit". This can sound remarkably similar to "How much is it?")

I think it was Frank Muir who was in Australia on a book signing tour and did indeed sign one to Emma Chizzet, allegedly.
