SWMBO passed this tip on to me and I hate to admit it but it worked when, in the middle of the night, I got cramp in my calf.

Same as holding your nose when you do not like a pong but lower your target a little.

I pinch my own arm really hard if I'm about to sneeze at an inappropriate moment and it often serves to prevent the sneeze. Flippin' hurts mind. Not sure why that works.

I was in one meeting at work once, when one of the participants suddenly sneezed violently, sending a huge glob of snot onto the whiteboard, where we all watched stunned with fascination as it slid slowly down over the bullet points and think bubbles...

I suspect that forcibly containing a sneeze is potentially very harmfull, like screwing down a safety valve on a steam engine.

Handkerchiefs were invented for these occasions.
