The music shop opposite work in Bath closed recently, but today I noticed a poster in the window stating that the shop contents were being sold in an online auction at www.go-dove.com/
Thought I might be able to pick up a bargain - perhaps just some cheap clarinet reeds, perhaps a cheap clarinet - but on the website it states:
"The Site is only for use by persons acting within their trade or businesses and may not be used by consumers."
Very disappointing. Is it basically because trade customers are more trustworthy?

Is it like the manufacturers dealer only used car auctions, where they don't want punters to find out the mark up's involved.

Focus,
Have you ever been paid to play?
Or do you have a Musicians' Union card?
While the phrase 'persons acting within their trade or businesses' might mean retailers - those who re-sell the goods - it could also mean those who use them professionally.

Maybe to avoid SOGA (although I don't think that would apply to an auction anyway), but then it is an American site that auctions stuff like complete production lines & suchlike so they're probably only set up for B2B transactions.

Yes - mainly as a member of the Reading Amateur Operatic Society's pit orchestra for their productions at the Hexagon; £230 for one rehearsal, one dress rehearsal and 5 performances. By the final night the novelty had always worn off - made me admire the real musicians who do it every night for years in the West End. The oboe player in one of the bands I play in was in Cats for 13 years.

No.

Thanks Iffy - probably won't try it this time.

A friend who is a businesswoman introduced me to the world of online trade only auctions recently. I was gobsmacked at how much goes on all day, every day, in the hidden world of 'wholesale' or whatever in the UK. There's everything from lost mobiles to million pound machines. But it's apparently not for you and I. She belongs to a thing called 'ebidders' I think.
