It seems that they have finally transferred all of the data from the 1980s versions of the Domesday Book from the laser discs and it is now available on the web.
I still remember being involved in data gathering at school, and perhaps this might throw up a few gems from the past.

I was going to reply to this thread after a quick browse of the Domesday site, but got lost in exploring it for ages :)
I too can recall lots of project work going on at school as this was being compiled, and the reverence with which the dedicated computer and its two enormous laserdiscs were treated. It's fascinating enough to see photos from 25 years ago on the website, but few would have predicted that so much of the carefully gathered content would be superceded within a generation by the likes of Wikipedia.
