A quick question in the hope someone's googling is better than mine.
Have planning and building warrant for a single storey with 4 x 55x78 Velux windows in it.
Due to the number of trusses, it will look more balanced if we put 6 windows in it and also increase these to the next size up, 55x98.
I phoned the building control officer and she said she would check it out but there were regulations relating to the amount of glazed area allowed for room. I am guessing this is maybe in relation to energy / insulation rather than too much light.
I have googled everything I can with Scotland, building control, glazing and no success. Anyone any knowledge on this - I am sure she referred to a Section 38 or something similar, I presume this refers to Building Control Regs?

I can't say building regs. are my specialist subject but section 6.2.2 of this document says there is no maximum area for windows:-
www.scotland.gov.uk/Resource/Doc/217736/0095432.pdf
Which seems to contradict the BCO's statement.
Appendix 6.A of that document gives some U value calculations including rooflights.

Cheers, will check it out

It will be insulation related. I would think if you use better glass and units with more air (or even argon) between panes you will get your extra windows.
