Imagine a scheme were put forward for the Government to buy back your vote from you.
The deal would be you get a cash payment, and you never have to think about voting or political issues ever again. There is a national money saving in vote counting, and not having to target campaigns at everyone.
I've a nasty feeling swathes of the population would take up an offer like that for about £150, even if nobody here would.

I'd sell my vote. I wouldn't agree with the idea that people were allowed to sell their vote, but I would sell mine (on the basis that my single vote won't influence anything).
I wonder how much Clegg would pay me for a Yes on Thursday?

It could be a winner in the marginals.

I guess it depends on how much you need the money. Esau mulled over the decision a while back.
"Of what use is this birthright to me? For behold, I am an-hungered and like to die.", and he sold his birthright for a mess of pottage."

An old English tradition. Election meeting held in the pub. Chap in a stovepipe hat with a heavy, clinking bag.
'Who's going to give his vote to the sitting, and rightful, candidate, the nephew of his lordship to whom we all owe so much?
'Three shilling and sixpence and a gallon of ale for all true patriotic Englishmen! And the dastardly Whig vicar to the stocks!'
(Cheering, bawdy laughter, confused applause. Sitting candidate returned with huge majority. Vicar's stipend halved).

That's not quite the same thing though, AC. That's being bribed to use your vote in a particular way. It might just happen to be the way you were going to vote anyway.
But having your vote cancelled on purchase by the government would be an interesting experiment.
Why stop there - perhaps votes could be freely tradeable, perhaps on eBay?
The prices of particular votes in the election run-up would be quite a good indicator of the way public opinion was moving. So as a coalition loomed, I might decide to offload my LibDem votes and buy Cons instead.
Or shall I invest in Lab 4-year futures?

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the last time I voted in any sort of election. If you don't believe in representative democracy you think your vote is worthless anyway...

"If you don't believe in representative democracy you think your vote is worthless anyway..."
What do you believe in? Absolute monarchy, Dictatorship, Anarchy Theocracy?

Would I sell my vote?
Yes, but only to a like-minded individual.
