Yeah, I enjoyed his work on the BBC, and he knew his soldiering.
I quite like Dan Snow when he does his military history, but you know he has never felt the mud or smelled the cordite.

Agreed Zero - He has a good enough pedigree though related directly to Lloyd George and to WW1 General D'oly Snow.....as well as his dad who was a fine journo.

But the programme on smells of cities in the past was a bit below him in my opinion.

A very good presenter, his book about the PWRR in 2005 is a good read. He said his aim was to put the common soldier centre it and I think he did that very well.

I'll look up some of what he's written then. Might find something I like - always tell myself to read up more on WWII for example.
