 Planting bare patch - Ambo
Help sought from gardening experts. I have a bare patch of soil (light, slightly acid, South Coast) 2mX3m and in a sunny, sheltered spot. I want to cover it with very low-upkeep plants, preferably fast growing but not invasive of the surrounding lawn and fruit beds. Anthinis, sedums, monbretia, bergeria and Rose of Sharon answer but I already have a lot of those. The new planting would ideally be evergreen and flower well. What are your suggestions please?

Nasturtin - TOM THUMB, 8-12 in high, spread well, very colourfull, not evergreen though, and for a really heady perfume you could mix in a few packets of "night-scented" stock

p.s
you have the advantage of being able to "graze" on any spare bits of Nasturtion and add colour to summer salads! you can even pickle the seeds!

Heathers would suit. They like a sunny site with acid soil and are easy to grow. They are available in a wide variety of colours and are perennial and evergreen. Low maintenance needing only a light clip after flowering. If you choose the varieties carefully you can have them in flower from February to June.
