A burger to die for - Iffy
Some recent posts on here about healthy eating have been a bit too earnest for my taste.

What do the forums resident dieticians think of this:

Looks like a balanced meal, maybe a couple of times a year would be about right.

Well that all crap. Which is a pity, because a good, well made, well seasoned, burger is a joyous thing

Don't mind a decent burger but that looks like the stuff you scrape off your shoes.

They chose their beer well too. Pabst Blue Ribbon makes Fosters look sophisticated.

Deep fried in lard.

Our last chippie that still used dripping, sadly, went many years ago. Does anyone know of anywhere that still does?

When we were stuck in San Francisco last year waiting for that Icelandic volcano to calm down, life was made more bearable by a trip to the Cheesecake Factory at the top of Macy's. They displayed the calories per slice for the various varieties, and I made a point of finding the highest - can't remember which one it was but the damage was about 1500. Went down a treat :)

Yes I went up there as well. I think I got rid of half of it by walking back to Fishermans Wharf via Nob hill.

We were in FW and I thought about that walk but never got around to it. But did walk up to the Coit tower one day, and made it harder by getting confused and initially going up another hill in completely the wrong direction!

Shame but you all appear to have missed Grumpy's American Bar...on Vallejo Street, northern end of the Embarcadero, 2 blocks south of Levi's Plaza.
Best burgers in the district, a few seats outside and excellent micro brewery beers. A fantastic place to get truly stoated at lunchtime after an early morning trip to Alcratraz. hic.

It's not quite lard, but Rick Stein's Fish and Chips in Falmouth still does chips cooked in beef dripping - pretty close, I'd have thought. And they were very good when I last had some, about a couple of weeks ago.

Rick Stein's chippie in Padstow does IIRC.

There's a chippie in one of the former pit villages in County Durham which still uses a coal fired fryer.

This is said to impart a unique flavour to the chips.

Not sure if they use dripping as well.

I eat the jelly at the bottom of the dripping dish!

It's great on toast.

I'm looking forward to my breakfast this morning. A decent sized piece of smoked haddock with vine tomatoes, followed by crumpets with benecol (light) spread, a glass of apple juice and a mug of black coffee.

I tend to let my hair down at weekends.

Not made from con-centrate I hope :)

I thought you claimed you couldn't cook and here you are admitting to collecting the dripping!

I haven't had a decent bit of 'bread and scrape' since my granny died - oh, I was forgetting. ;>)

That was below the belt Tubby:)
