Just to let you know we plan to shut down this site between 6 and 7 am tomorrow morning to relocate the servers. Downtime should not be more than 20 mins.
What you should say is "back in an hour" and then surprise and delight us by having it back in 20 minutes.
My money is on 2 hours downtime tho!

That's what I call "zero optimism"! ;-)

They will all be in bed at that time...thanks for letting me know:)

No they won't...
...Downtime should not be more than 20 mins...
Don't hold your breath, wasn't something similar said at the old place?

Across how many time zones?
Reminds me of the I.T. at a place i used to work.
We never asked how long the system would be down for.
we asked how long it would be up for..............
>> Don't hold your breath, wasn't something similar said at the old place?
That's a good point - will we recognise it when(/if) it comes back up? :)
its a ploy by hj to shut it down so he can poach back his missing forumites.
If so... I'll start up a forum everyone can join........ ;-)
Perhaps it should be mentioned that the person responsible for the temporary shutdown in the other place isn't the same person as here.
That person here offered you refuge while the other place was shut down, and has continued to do so since.
Now I wonder who can wake up first, me or the new server?
Good luck with it.
5.05 and I'm up before it shuts down:)

I haven't been to bed yet but then I'm 5 hours behind in Florida... :-)
Either it went down and up real quick or the team aren't out of bed yet ...
.. the guys in London are running 15 mins late. Just shutting down the backup server at the mo. It's doing a load of updates to a Windows server in one of the virtual machines.
Had to be out late last night - so not many hours sleeep!

.. at least you can be my friend Dave. ;-)
Still up here.....the server that is.
Looks pretty seamless to me. On the site at 06.25 which is early enough for me and many of us - well done the team!
That's cos if you read my post you will see I haven't turned it off yet!
Those guys in London can't get out of bed then.
Pat
Taxi was late by 1/2 hour.
Sorreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
They're having a management meeting with tea & toast now before they start work.
Pat
They don't know the meaning of the word
Work or management Martin?
Pat
This is the world of IT Pat, they don't have tea and toast breakfast meetings.
It's French patisserie and java coffee.
They're paid far too much....they didn't even pave My Drive:(

Don't worry we are now working on it. I am fully confident that none of you will like the new site. ;-)
Ok - all seems to be sorted now.
- as for the long delay in getting going - all down to a couple of Windows VMs which decided they needed x million updates before they would power off. One with a helpful "Installing xx of xx updates" and the other with just a blank screen but CPU flat out - so guessing it was doing the same.
It's powering up that Windows VM now, and there are more messages about it doing updates - sigh. So some other client will be waiting for their website to appear.
Congrat's for a swift resolution.
Would have had to look at the weather report tonight otherwise!!
