This looks to be good.

The Secret World of Whitehall.

Three-part series by Michael Cockerell starts with the role played over the years by the most powerful unelected member of the government, the Cabinet Secretary.

He is the real life Sir Humphrey from Yes Prime Minister, who rules the civil service from Whitehall's least understood ministry, the Cabinet Office.

Mixing rare archive with candid interviews, the programme tells the story of the many battles for power between Britain's top civil servant and their prime ministers.

BBC4 does turn out some good stuff!

Edit

BBC4 tonight 21:00

In case anyone misses BBC4 programmes of this nature or the recent ones on variety theatre and various comedians, they are usually shown on BBC2 a short time later.

Very watchable.

I like the the two brothers, both with the surname POWELL. One brother pronounced it POW ELL, his brother pronounced it POLE.

What do you make of that?

That would be two to watch by my reckoning.

Anyway, back to the original thread, I've watched the first couple in this series so far - second was best.

But, anyone who applies the monica GOD to his correspondence has to be worried about.
