Samsung Galaxy S phone - charges through mini USB socket

Will a USB cable plugged into one of these

give the same "juice" as a straightforward charger? like this

Reason I am asking, is I have the USB plugged into the adaptor and it struggles to keep the battery level the same, never mind actually increasing the battery power!
Looking to buy the second one but no point if it will not make any difference?

I have a Nokia with both a mini-USB port and a 2mm Nokia charger socket. The instructions say either can be used for charging, but the USB port will charge at a slower rate. I would assume yours would behave in the same way.

I believe that USB is only rated at 500mw, most phone chargers are 1,000mw (1W).

Dont buy that - its cheap tat and might not work. Certainly wont charge an Iphone or recent IPOD.

Yes - buy that.

or one of these

your Galaxy cable will plug into the USB port in the end of the charger, and the included Ipod cable is nice and long for your sons Ipod.

I am pretty sure the Belkon USB cig ports offer around 1000ma not the standard USB of 400Ma.
