They might be getting the vote, they seem to have little trouble getting hold of drugs and mobile phones when inside, they walk out of open prisons at will and now this. Is it punishment/rehabilitation or a holiday camp?

Not sure being dressed as a women and being locked up with a load of sex starved criminals is my idea of being in a holiday camp!

Well perhaps "Camp".! I would have thought they would be better off concealing their problems/predilictions until they were out of prison.

Not entirely convincing are they? I am sorry for them BTW but I think prison is not a good place to "Come out" or start a change.

Would be interesting to know the numbers affected across the prison population of approx 80,000.

I've worked with somebody undergoing male to female transition who explained her position in terms similar to one of the links in PP's post above.

“Transvestites wear the clothes of the opposite sex through choice.
Transsexuals wear the bodies of the opposite sex through no choice.”

they have the choice to stay as they are.

Gender reassignment surgery should be banned, its a waste of valuable medical resources.

Not as much of a waste as giving 30 stone compulsive eaters gastric bands. They have a choice - people who by an accident of genetics are born with indeterminate sexuality are stuck with it, without medical intervention.
