Has any one seen the latest Danny Boyle film? Saw it on Saturday and one of the most gripping and suspenseful films I have ever seen although I must admit watching what has been called the"escape" scene was extremely difficult to watch. A collective intake of breath and groan went round the cinema
Only just getting the image out of my mind and watched tonight's Panorama on pain and they interviewed a guy who had cut his own arm off with a power saw to free himself after an accident in which he lay trapped in his basement undetected for over a day.

Th older I get, the more squeamish I get - I won't be watching it!
Bad enough watching that other climbing film - Touching the Void - where Joe Simpson was suspended at the end of a rope after a fall and breaking his leg and his mate had (in the end, basically to save his own life) to cut the rope and thought Joe had fallen to his death. He fell and ended up down a crevasse - he survived after a week long crawl out of crevasse and back to (base?) camp.
Excellent film.

I really don't think a film about a man cutting his arm off is up my street.

I saw a film that had a character CMOT (Cut Me Own Throat) Dibbler.
Makes me think of Bellboy. ;>)

It does seem an unlikely premise for a film but it really is one of the outstanding films of the past 12 months. If you like cinema and not overly sensitive, (something I never put you down as somehow!) do go and see it. It is a great film.

Totally understand although it is a great film it is very hard to watch - at least the amputation scene. Have read a number of accounts where people have faced a similar dilemma and simply do not know whether I could even contemplate such a thing but still guess you will never know unless you are in that position.

Keep away from big holes in the ground is my advice.

I once fell through my lawn. An underground leak from a water main had undermined it. Fell about 5'. Didn't have to cut my arm off but my wife split her sides.
