We bought SWMBO's HTC Desire on what was advertised as a £25pm contract late last year, when VAT was 17.5%. Now it's 20%, so it's more than £25pm, albeit not by much.
I suspect the company is within its rights to do this, but just wondered if anyone knows any different?
(She's very happy with the phone BTW.)

Left a lot of people angry. See:

...signed up late last year...
I did the same with Orange for £15 a month and I'm sure the lad told me they were going to take a few pence off in the New Year so the cost to me remained at £15.
I've also got a £5 a month dongle.
Just checked the last DD off my bank statement which was £20.75.
The 75p - I think - will be for a couple of 0345 calls which I made, and which are not covered by the calling plan.

i took out my contract at £10 pm and got a letter this morning saying because of vat it's going up by 21pence

Thanks - wife is with Orange so we might double-check with them.
Don't you get a itemised calls charge?

Yes, the entire account is online and I never bother to look at it because I'm so rarely outside the inclusive calls/data package.
Might have a gander shortly - if I can remember where I wrote down the password. :)

Sorry - don't understand. Why would you think that they would not pass on a VAT increase?

I wouldn't - I'm asking if any one else would.

some of them added the VAT increase before the date, because it fell in the middle of a billing cycle.
|
When I renewed mine in October they warned me it would increase with the VAT rise.
