As was The New Avengers. Joanna Lumley in her day - cor.

Ah, The Professionals.
They filmed an episode at my school once. Before filming started, the headmaster was showing the actors around the school site. The walked past an open classroom window at which I was sitting, idly gazing across the playing fields and dreaming of netting yet another hat-trick for the third eleven. I should have been listening to the psychotic maths teacher droning on about some useless guff or other of course, however I wasn't and I was spotted. The teacher buzzed a blackboard rubber at me, which I happily noticed at the last minute. Ducking, the rubber flew out of the window, grazed Gordon Jackson's nose and clouted the headmaster full in the face.
The psychotic maths teacher was a little more restrained after that incident.

I sold a Renault 5 Auto to Lewis Collins's girlfriend in the early 1980s.
He was quite a big star at the time, and she told me once word of the car reached his fans, they sent him presents for it, locking petrol caps, that sort of thing.
The car can be seen in Who Dares Wins, a film in which Collins plays an SAS man.
He is seen driving it at speed down a mews in London.
|
The Proffesionals it's on sky today seen them all last time it was on but still watch them.
|
Yes itv 4 which is still a program on sky aswell as freeview.
Logans run another carp program i have seen lately may have been carp then too.
When i get my head out of the hangover i'll remember a load more.!!
|
But they all appear naff these days don't they. Just like all the older Bond films.

So is Martin Shaw.
An Ak-Tor dont you know.
|
I meant Mr Shaw - the reply ended up in the wrong place...!
|
In all fairness, Martin Shaw has done quite a bit of proper acting hasn't he. You're forgetting he did have west end successes early in his career, e.g. Look Back in Anger in 1967. We're all probably assuming he is more famous for the Professionals - he blocked repeats until the 90s.
Maybe more of a case of selling out to make money in the 70s doing the Professionals and some other naff shows.

...he blocked repeats until the 90s...
James Bolam did the same with The Likely Lads, and I believe is still doing so.
I read about that in an interview with Rodney Bewes, who at the time was skint and living in a bedsit in Bournemouth.
Bewes said Bolam knew he was desperate for money, but would still not let repeats be shown.
I'm not sure how it works, and I think the BBC can show the occasional episode on a one-off basis, or the feature film.
But they can't put the show on constant repeat on Gold in the same way as the likes of Porridge and Only Fools and Horses.
|
...He's a pretentious lovey these days - very up himself...
If you'd met his dad, you'd find that even more amusing.
James Bolam went the same way.
|
I remember telling my parents I was going to watch the very worthy 'world about us' on BBC2 Sunday evenings, then actually watching 'planet of the apes' on ITV (TV series - I wasn't aware of the films at the time).
|
They were brilliant Focus !
|
>> They were brilliant Focus !
You mean the films? Yes, I caught up with them later. TV series seemed very good too at the time, although I've never seen it since - given the tosh that does get repeated, perhaps it wasn't that great after all...
|
Anyone remember Streethawk? - a 2 wheeled version of Knight Rider.
|
ohhh and CHiPs - those Guzzis worked well in Californiaaaa and the Z1000s would work anywhere.
|
And me - I nearly bought one as they were flogging them off relatively cheaply in 1981 - there were two versions the ST was a shaftie - spent the money on beer and women instead...
I watched that clip around 1.04 there is a gear changing shot - really evocative thing that for me - there was another shot of a gear change from the instruments perspective where the rev-counter "blips" as the rider does a down change.....

Part of the Saturday lunchtime ritual - Tiswas (although not a fan of SJ, didn't like her presentation) followed by Tarzan, with fish and chips from the local chippie. Yum.

As I got older I preferred the adult version called OTT (Over The Top) - which it usually was.

Good actor. He played a fabulous Eisenhower, in a drama about the planning and politics around Operation overlord. "Ike: Countdown to D-Day"
He is also very good in Blue Bloods a new series about NY cops.
You wont have seen that Bigtee - its not on sky yet! I have all the episodes. For less than Sky subscription.
