Our oil-fired boiler service engineer said he'd apply some "fireclay" to seal a small fumes leak between the wall mounted boiler and the wall. He must have forgotten to do it, so the question is .......... is fireclay the right word and is it available ready mixed in small tins? Any information on the product would be appreciated ~ product name, supplier etc.

After a bit of googling I think the service engineer should have said "fire cement".

...should have said 'fire cement'...
Is fire cement similar stuff to 'Gun Gum' - car exhaust putty?
I used that to glue a couple of loose tiles onto one of the Victorian fireplaces at Iffy Towers.
I'm only raising the possibility - the OP's job needs to be right, don't want to be taking any chances with boiler fumes.

Fireclay cement - about £5 @ B&Q = I patched the flue a few months back - a few surface cracks but a good seal - no fumes/no soot from Anthracite Boiler. Only 3rd application in 24 years!

Thanks Falkirk Bairn. It'll save me having to get the engineer to come back.

"KOS" fire cement. Used to use it a lot when we had open fires.
As I remember it's available at Robert Dyas and other good hardware stores. Or an internet search comes up with a number of online suppliers.

Pyruma was the material of choice, in the olden days, and it is still available. I recall it as a sort of gritty putty like material which was put in place, I can't remember if it dried naturally or the heat of the fire did it. It was used both for sealing and for securing or joining fire bricks
