So the machines we like to call 'centrifuges', for drying our clothes and enriching our uranium, would be better called 'lack-of-centripetes'. It might catch on.

While we're in the mood for purifying the language, perhaps there's an animation out there to prove that there's no 'oo' sound in the word 'zoology'...

Truly on the internet you can find anything.

Of course, the animation takes place in a very crude way right at the beginning, and there's no possible reason I can see for watching after it happens, so only the first few seconds are of interest. Surely?

Brilliant, Cranky - that's made my day! Intriguingly, there seems to be a small creature - a lizard perhaps - trying to get into or out of the nice lady's shorts. Is that part of the explanation that I missed?

That is absolutely shocking. Nobody should bend the spine of a modern paperback like that - the glue will give. Even if it looks as if it's stitched that's usually just flimflam to disguise the glue. Properly stitched books pretty well died out in the middle of the last century unless they are very expensive indeed.

I'm never letting her get anywhere near my incunabula.

There is according to Cambridge Dictionaries Online, unless you're American. dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/british/zoology

What on earth am I doing? This thread is about centrifugal force, not zoology!

Hands up who's just got the site to say a rude word.

Ahem. Construct Newton's Laws in a rotating system and a centrifugal force term appears clearly.

Sorry about the pedantry.

If the latest news from Yongbyon is to be believed we'll be seeing a bit more centrifugal force soon.

What it must be to be the Chosun Eun.

Sorry, that's the worst pun I ever did and even I'm ashamed.

The expression "centrifugal force" is used purely to enable an equation to be constructed in which both sides are assumed to be equal. That doesn't mean that centrifugal force actually exists.

I'd be pleased to hear your reasoning to justify your statement.
