"I remember the stage act the night he died actually."
Not as well as I remember it I bet.
The night he died I was 16, in my bedroom in my mam and dad's house and I had just lost my virginity to a girl I'd met the night before at the rollerskating rink in Ashton-under-Lyne. I was concluding proceedings by "going down there" as any gent would when suddenly my mother rushed in shouting, "David, David, you'll never guess who just died on live tv..."
I lifted my head up, face soaking wet and said, "who's that mum?".
She just turned around and walked out and we've never mentioned it since.
