 Roy Hattersley - Robin O'Reliant
Whether you agreed with his politics or not, he represents an era now sadly disappearing when politicians were led mainly by their principles rather than their spin doctors instructions.

I must admit I was surprised to read about his death as I had assumed he'd left us years ago.

A man after my own heart.

On the Croslandite right of the Labour party and then criticising Blair for rightward drift.

My abiding memory is of his Spitting Image puppet.

Obit in the Times says he'd not attended the Lords since the early noughties and had retired in 2017.

Won't link to Times as it's paywalled but the Graun obit is here:

I think there were rumours of some progressive health condition although he was still active into the Brexit era. .

One of the old school - a decent man. Sadly my dominant memory is of his somewhat cruel replacement by a tub of lard after he failed for a third time to turn up for “Have I got news for you”

He did like good food. Had a reputation as a bit of a gourmet. Saw him a couple of times in high end restaurants in Norwich. Seemed a nice guy.

The only Michelin star in Norwich is employee of the month down at Kwik Fit

And before you say it, Caister Hall is south of the Norwich bypass..........

I was lucky to hear him speak at a book launch in north Wales. It was a brilliant night, and a great q&a at the end. Brilliant speaker

I didn’t say Michelin starred. The restaurants in question were Brasteds and Adlards, both now sadly gone.

The best restaurant in Norwich currently in Norwich is Blossoms in Upper St Giles. Well worth a visit when next you are up this way.
