All these countries at the Commonwealth games, what is the link, are they all governed by Queen Betty or something?

If so do they owe us money or vice versa? Can we sell them and raise money for our country?

All are former colonies or otherwise areas of strong uk influence but one recent joiner (Mozambique?) is not.

Apart from giving the natives nasty diseases and Christianity, didnt we leave behind a similar administrative hierachy such as local councils and central government as well as an identical legal system?

They ceased to be the Empire Games long ago.

The commonwealth provided/provides cheap raw materials to the "mother" country, which then sold/sells manufactured goods to the captive market at exorbitant prices. A city which benefited enormously from this trade was none other than Glasgow.
"After the Acts of Union in 1707, Scotland gained trading access to the vast markets of the British Empire and Glasgow became prominent in international commerce as a hub of trade ... In its subsequent industrial era, Glasgow produced textiles, chemicals, engineered goods and steel, which were exported."
So yes, Glasgow owes much to the Commonwealth for it's existence and wealth.

The Chinese are now buying in to those countries big time, to corner the supply of raw materials. So us in Blighty won't have to worry about our exploitation of the poor blighters in the Commonwealth much longer.

Maybe the Chinese will learn from the UK about selling back poor quality manufactured tat back to the countries they import raw materials from, then again maybe not !
