I've never had a problem with traffic police. I've been "rollocked" occasionally by a traffic cop but it's been deserved and always polite. I've posted before that I've occasionally made them laugh.
In the late summer I was driving home on the M25 after a rather acrimonious meeting with some distant relatives who are treating their late 80 year old mother terribly - the subject of which will be another post at another time.
Anyway, I'm feeling drained and pull off at some services and rest for a bit whilst Mrs Z goes and gets a coffee and promises to bring back a cold drink for me.
Whilst she is gone I develop a throbbing headache and decide that the front of the car is too bright and get in the back and lie down.
My clamber in to the back of the car doesn't go un-noticed and there is a gentle tap on the window and I'm greeted by a gaggle of police officers checking if I'm OK. I didn't clock the big unmarked car a few spaces down.
Now I know that they might have been thinking that I could have been drink driving but they didn't suggest it at all and asked if I was OK or did I need any help.
I told them that I had a headache coming on and one of the police officers went back to their car and produced a cold bottle of water and a couple of aspirin, which I was very grateful for.
One of officers stayed by the car so that I could leave the doors open until my wife returned and another came back to say he had cleared it with the services manager that I could stay longer than the two hours without charge if I needed to. Quality service.
I've already sent a thank you note to their HQ.
