Adhesive which isn't heat sensitive? - smokie
In the new kitchen I have undercupboard lighting which is COB LED strips. I got them because I could cut them to the exact length required and the light is very good and even. They are used a lot, such that the ceiling lights barely ever get lit up. I control them mainly using presence and luminance sensing via MQTT & Home Assistant. They came with a double sided sticky tape attached so you peel off the backing and put them straight up.

However I think I didn't put one lot up very well in the first place, so it fell and I have tried numerous times with different adhesive (latest is Gorilla contact) but it seems that if the lights are on a long time, when they get slightly warm, then the glue softens and they droop again.

I can't easily get under to hammer some cable clips in (and SWMBO wouldn't countenance that in her new kitchen!) so what glue ought I be trying which won't be affected by heat?

Or maybe I just replace the entire strip and put it up properly in the first place!!

Blutac?

Then every time it falls down you just press it back up and walk away?

Gripfill might be worth a try.

How much does the lighting strip cost.

Personally I would simply replace with a new strip rather than mess around with adhesives potentially making yet more mess!!

Get some of the auto-trim double sided tape from Amazon or ebay. Clean both surfaces well (isoprop preferably).

I used it to re-attach some weather trim (plastic to painted bodywork) inside the boot rain channels on the jag and it worked well.

Silicone sealant is my adhesive of choice. It can withstand very hot water so the heat from a few LED's shouldn't be a problem.

Seconded re double sided tape. Mine was bought from Amazon and is branded 3M. It lists fixing strip lighting as one if it’s recommended uses. I wouldn’t be without it in the tool box. It’s a useful general fixing aid. I’ve even used it to secure door thresholds on a concrete floor to avoid drilling. It’s heat resistant too.

It was very cheap Terry so another is probably worth a try

BUT as I've already ordered some 3M VHB double-sided tape ( www.3m.co.uk/3M/en_GB/vhb-tapes-uk/ )so I'll see how that goes. Kevin's foam tape might have been a good alternative though, as being foamy it might have been easier to press down to make good contact along its length.

I hadn't thought of silicon, that could be a good call too. As could Gripfill!!

Part of the problem so far is that cos it's a bit awkward and I'm trying to avoid too much mess I've been just using blobs of glue every 9 inches or so, but it really needs sticking along the whole thing.

Get some aluminium profile (designed for LED strip) and cut to length. Screw to the cabinet and add the LED strip before clipping the cover on. Your strip will stay secure and the heat sink effect of the aluminium means that the LEDs will last forever.

Yes I read about aluminium profile over the weekend, also seems a good possibility, but the COB lighting is not a flat strip like old fashioned LED, it's altogether heavier and larger (and runs hotter) - like this

www.amazon.co.uk/pcningled-COB-Self-Adhesive-Waterproof/dp/B0DKC6FNR5?th=1

except I got it direct from China at roughly a fifth of that price. :-) Looks identical - same LEDs per metre, also IP67 etc

It is very effective and doesn't have pools of light and dark. And most importantly SWMBO likes it. If only it would stay up!!! (The lighting I mean!!)

There are altogether 6 pieces of varying sizes and only 1 is persistently causing a problem, and it is the longest. So I think I'll try the double sided tape then if that doesn't work lash out another £3 on a new piece, and just be more diligent when I'm putting it up.
