20 Years Ago Today - zippy

I was driving to Richmond, London for a meeting.

I was going to get the train but as it was hot, I didn't want all the changes / tube journey so jumped in the car.

I had a CD on rather than the radio so didn't hear the news until I arrived.

I had also put my Nokia in the boot in my laptop bag and there were messages from friends / colleagues checking I was OK.

A dreadful day for all those involved.

Thank you to the heroes there who jumped in to action to save others.

Was working in office in Chancery Lane as usual.

Cycled down from Euston, again as usual, passing Tavistock Place an hour or two before the bus bomb went off.

Not sure if cemtral London was actually locked down but there were certainly massive disruption to both the tube and mainline rail. Eventually got a train out of Euston at around 15:00 having contemplated riding the Brompton to Harrow or Watford where Mrs B could pick me up in a car.

Had forgotten my phone that morning and had to buy a cheap one with a PAYG SIM. The networks were totally overloaded in the aftermath but were back in some semblance of order by early afternoon.

Sgt Pepper taught the band to play.

Sorry, I couldn't resist it.

En-Route to Belgium via Dover with two friends. We were o the M25, radio turned right down for Traffic Announcments only. Noted that the M25 anti-clockwise was really quiet and at one point a comvoy of 10 or more ambulances were seen. Stopped off at Services and the rolling news TVs were showing the emergency response in London. Turned the radio on and continued onwards as the information came in. In many ways seems like yesterday.....
