Today another bucket list item ticked off !
Conwy Valley train line. Through a strange quirk Transport For Wales allow free all year round travel on a bus pass.
Easy on street parking in Llandudno Junction near the railway station. Then a prompt Class 197 train from Junction to Blaenau Ffestiniog. On our arrival we were greeted by a major fire at the historic Queens Hotel nearby the railway station (which jointly serves the Welsh Highland Railway - £14.80 for an all day ticket - if you choose to travel onto Porthmadog) we were met by my wife's cousin and a choice made to drive to Betws y Coed to catch the return leg later on in the day.
The views from the train are second to none from epic views of the Conwy river's trsnsition to the sea near the town, past Roman remains of a fort, past a classic Welsh castle through mountains of stone and slate...
The dog didn't come with us as planned and we had to leave him at home due to the unknown attitude to train travel. Needs to be tested on a short run between Rhyl and Prestatyn which is pencilled in for this summer sometime.
