Ever since my days in the Cubs I’ve had rucsacs for carting my stuff around…I have a princely collection in the loft, becoming lighter and more comfortable as the years rolled on.
Spending almost half the year in foreign parts, these man bags seem to be growing in circulation, and as I have an imminent 7 week road trip, I’m thinking of procuring one to carry passport, wallet, documents, rather than just sticking everything in a small backpack where to gain access to beer & snap tokens you need to take it off.
Anybody got one & what not to buy ?

I have one similar to this
Eastpak 'The One', OK for wallet, keys, passports, and documents you can fold.
the sizes are wrong on Amazon's listing, it's 21 x 5.5 x 16 cm

Many thanks. Now ordered..grey denim.
I’ll still have my rucsac for mountain use…
I bought one of these a few years ago… great piece of kit. Carry on size for Jet2 and sufficient capacity for 3 weeks in warmer climes overseas.

Concur. We have a pair of those in the medium size that we bought for flying. I don't trust clamshell cases held together with zips, I don't need a four wheeler, and they look tough.

Remember 'man bags' as a massive thing in France when holidaying with my parents in mid/late seventies. Mum was fascinated by their use and prevalence. Never got Dad, who had notoriously bulging pockets with reading glasses etc, to use one.
Seem to have made a slight comeback of late.
One thing that went in them later on was the removable fascia from car stereo.

But will your link fit in it?

....one might suggest one of these for that...

Strewth… I didn’t see that long link.
Anyway, like manatee I like my Eastpak Traverz. Navy blue with bright yellow clips and bright orange inner.
I just don’t see the point of the 4 wheeled carry on bags. They eat into the dimensions allowed, and add weight. Jet2 allow 10kg for llareggub ( Under Milk Wood) and I prefer the weight to be in the contents

It's an oddity with this site that long URLs make it go haywire.

313 bloomin' characters ! Now shrunk

I've a man bag that I dug out for the last hot days. Useful for phone, keys and wallet when it's warm enough for short sleeves, but not shorts. I've various shorts that have numerous pockets.
|
I had one back in tie late 70s for InterRail travel. Goodness knowns where it is now. My friend has a couple of them. I have a few trips planned this summer may indulge in a new one. I have a photo of me with my 70s bag somewhere...I'll dig it out

Living in Rohan trousers with multiple pockets, several with zips, I'm rarely short of places for keys/wallets.
Have had the odd issue where I've worn other trousers/shorts and had wallets drop out where a man bag might have been the answer.

With the increasing need to carry inhalers, epi-pen, phone, etc. perhaps a man bag might be the answer, though I'm not sold on the idea.

Maybe I’m a bit paranoid but on my continental motoring trips I like to keep my documents on me whenever I leave the car parked up….so that’s V5C ( in theory should be the original) car insurance, MOT, travel Insurance, passport, travel documents ( accommodation rental details & ferry bookings).
I try not to park in dodgy areas but sometimes needs must.
|
Try not to leave passports in the car but I'm not too bothered about the V5 etc.
