Swmbo's siblings and their (adult) kids always plead to be involved when we arrange events for birthdays, mothers day, fathers day etc. and we bend over backwards to accommodate them.

Never works the other way around though.

I don't give two hoots but it upsets Swmbo.

How best to make a point that it can't be all one sided in the future?

Dont bother, you'd be wasting your time, in one ear out the other, its part of families life cycle.

Zero is right. It’s just how family life is. It not all like the Waltons ( if you remember them).

Maybe you need to consider the wider picture. Presumably the relationship isn’t solely based on these occasions. What else is going on that might explain their behaviour. Maybe jealousy over money/lifestyle or (which applies in my case) friction over elderly care of the next generation. Things like that can result in odd behaviour. They might feel you can ruddy well afford it. Or maybe you just throw great parties and they feel they can’t compete.
