Same.

That's two in a matter of weeks if you count the fuel tanker. Plus the fire at the explosives factory in Wales.

Why is there no back up power supply for such a large piece of critical infrastructure!?

Reports suggest that there are multiple grid connections to LHR. The area supplied through the Hayes substation is mostly 'old' LHR ie parts of the Central Area. T4 and T5 are said to have supplies.

I think closing the whole thing is a function of when the incident happened ie when only long haul flights were in the air and could be diverted or turned back. Better to have one simple message, it's shut, then the chaos of having it half open with all the mixed messages and potential for misunderstandings involved.

If the central area is without power then, even if there's traction current to the railway, lack of lighting etc on stations would hobble the tubes and buses.

It would be interesting to see what would have happened if the incident had occurred during the morning arrivals peak.

NINE HUNDRED AND TWENTY TWO POUNDS, Last two seats, Easy Jet, Glasgow > LGW

Thats what one couple paid to get home after being diverted to Glasgow. Talk about price gouging.

Demand led pricing is effectively an auction. I wonder how many bidders there were for those seats?

Will the purchasers travel insurer pay without quibble I wonder?

Ryanair have some extra service between Stansted and Dublin today and tomorrow.

I've not looked at the prices.

A bit like quantum physics here. You can know the flight is going but not the price.

If you look at the prices they will rise for everyone else who actually wants to book.

Depends on the urgency to get back I guess.
My first port of call would be to see if there were any beds on the Caledonian sleeper. On my bucket list to do!

We did it to and from Inverness as part of our trip to Harris for the launch of The Hearach whisky in 2023. Not cheap but worth every penny.

In fact, by the time the necessity for hotels if air travel or daytime trains were involved, it was quite competitive.

Hearach

I mind watching one of these BBC Scotland tv progs, maybe Island Crossings? And it covered the launch of the Hearach. Were you there at that time?

We were. Mrs B is one of the people who paid before the launch for various goodies including a bottle from the first batch.

We hired a camper van for the stay.
