Medicine Shortage and Consequences - zippy
MIL takes CREON, a prescription medicine.

Mrs Z and I have spent the week scouring pharmacies (they don't answer their phones) looking for supplies.

There seems to be a world-wide shortage of the drug.

We managed to find one with 2 weeks supply but the catch is that the dose is a lot smaller, so rather than a few tablets a day, she has to take 130 a day.

This is unsustainable and the secondary, not as pleasant consequence is that she will be hospitalised at great expense to the NHS.

I am reluctant to buy them online as you can't be sure if they are legitimate / unadulterated.

Any ideas please?

Try ringing the manufacturers and asking if they have supplied to pharmacists in your area.

I hope you are successful but if not go back to your GP / Consultant and ask if they can prescribe alternatives.

The information above comes from Guts uk website , worth a read.

My essential drugs are all very commonly prescribed generics and I have have had no problems finding them, but I do hoard a 2 month buffer. They are the only treatment I have had for what was severe heart failure and such is my unpleasant memory of gasping for breath that you could say I suffer from tablet anxiety!

Try Googling CREON alternatives.

Just searched the Swedish stocks, and almost every chemist has Creon 10000 in stock, prescription free, and most chemists have 25000 in stock. So it seems to be available generally. It also says 35000 has been discontinued.
