I got fed up with the ongoing saga of having small TVs and my big set being in the repair shop for 6 odd weeks. (If it does get repaired I will use it in the den.) I splashed out and bought a replacement. It was delivered today but to the wrong address!!! We are (example road) Parker Avenue. They have delivered it to Parker Close looking at the tracking info. Signed for with a "squiggle". What's more, it was a trade in offer so they would have set it up and taken the old TV away. Who would let a delivery company do that! Surely they must know that they haven't ordered a £2.5k OLED 77inch TV!!! I want to go around and have a "rant" at them but Mrs Z has persuaded me not to. Been on hold to the shop for a while now and have of course emailed them (Mrs Z proof read my email to make sure that I was being polite but firm). On a different matter - my laptop screen - Mrs Z tells me belatedly that she bought it with an extended 3 year return to base warranty - yay - I'll sort it out after the New Year! We have this with 'signed for' stuff. Last one was a cheap/cheerful cordless drill bought mainly for the caravan steadies. I arrived a day earlier then anticipated and we were out. Left on the old caravan step that lives by the front door where it still was a couple of hours later. The delivery confirmation clearly stated it was signed for. The signature was a squiggle. One of my neighbours suggested Evri got one of the close's cats to sign for it. Reply to this message | Report message

They couldn't say what they would do with the delivered one. If it were me I would collect it back. They said the trade in TVs are destroyed and metals recycled and taken on the understanding that if the TV is returned then there is no value in the recycled set so I hope they do collect the new one. I understand the new TV can be "adjusted" over the internet by the manufacturer - not sure I am keen on that, but perhaps they can disable it or switch it off over the internet? I also called the courier company. Large reputable firm. They said two man team were on site for 38 minutes, so how did the recipients have the brass balls to not say anything for that long! (BTW I double checked my address on the delivery note and order are correct.) Reply to this message | Report message

The same happened to a neighbour a couple of years ago. A road near us has a similar name and the courier got them mixed up. I forget what the item was but it wasn't cheap and when queried the courier firm sent a photo of the delivered item in the porch. Guessing what had happened she went down the other road, knocked on the door with the same number as hers and with the porch as shown in the photo only to have the householder flatly deny receiving anything. She got a replacement sent out FoC straight away so all ended well but it left a very sour taste. Reply to this message | Report message

I ordered a portable DVD player this year off Amazon. Only £50ish. Came home the following day and saw a parcel stood on it's end in the front garden between two wheely bins. It was pouring down. It was the player. The Royal Mail at least tell you where it is when they can't deliver . It was in full view of the road. Mentioned it to my daughter and she said just to tell them it hadn't arrived. I duly got my dosh back. The goods hadn't got wet. Then She told me she had one in the loft that was never used, a Toshiba, and I could have it ! Spent the money on a new battery for the caravan ! Naughty ! Ted Reply to this message | Report message

We carried ' snaps '. They were a chrome plated figure of eight device. The baddie's end closed up with a one inch gap so it didn't pinch the poor soul's flesh on his wrist and the goodie's end (me) closed up completely with a locking clip to form a handle. You could break someone's arm easily with it! Our 'nightstick' was an ' alldaystick '. A hardwood club with a leather strap that lived in a special trouser pocket and was hidden. It was about a foot long and lethal on bones. The collar bone was favourite. I still have a couple. About fifteen or so years back I heard a van pull up outside my drive and saw the driver put a ramp to the back. When i got out he was unloading a Kawasaki VN900 which he then wheeled onto the drive. He handed me a load of paperwork which needed my signature on various bits. He had the right road and house number but the wrong village. For a moment or two the voice of Satan whispering in my ear nearly swung the balance but the prospect of a prison sentence brought a surge of common sense back and I had to point out his error and send him on his way. They can be a pain. One day I looked out of the front window and saw a van driving away with the driver waving at me. I investigated and found a box of 4 X5litre white vinegar on the doorstep.. No , not a fish & chips addict, it was for weedkilling around the estate. and heavy ! It was on the doorstep, one step down and impossible to pick up from above it. It also blocked my way past. I had tp dig out the ancestral Stanley knife, go out of the back door and take the box apart where it stood. If he wasn't in such a damn hurry, he could have rung the bell, put it on the hall floor and I could have slid it in on the expensive Carrera marble floor ( Lino ), to a better position for SWM to lift it up and take it to the garage ! I was only 6ft from the door when I saw him ! Not that they ever ring the bell, always thump on the door....those who can be bothered. Ted Reply to this message | Report message

Three times recently Amazon have delivered to the correct post-code but the wrong house name. The incorrect has a 91 year old lady living alone, twice my doorbell camera caught her manhandling my parcels down our footpath. AN essential item (repair kit for the visitor's toilet seat ) was delivered to the local post office - couldn't risk that going wrong ! Spoke to regular (eastern European and reliable) Amazon guy, he noted the error and explained it was a bone idle new employee that had "flagged" the other house as being "correct" - spoke to a helpful US based customer service guy ...he says he has corrected the error. New TV arrived and was installed on the 30th. One DOH - the old oak TV cabinet isn't wide enough for the wide apart legs on the new TV (why can't they have central stands). The now (temporarily) redundant office desk has been temporarily* promoted to TV cabinet and it looks sleek and modern with the closed back of the desk to the room. The new TV is an LG 77 inch model and the legs are 140cm apart - sorry for mixing units. This is my first OLED screen. The colours are very vivid. It's not quite as bright as the now dead Samsung QLED. It's a 4k set, the Samsung was 8k. To be honest, there is no noticeable difference on most images - save on the menus. The sound is noticeably better. The remote is fancy. It acts as a mouse / cursor - just point it at the screen and the cursor moves just like a mouse pointer. This is a bottom of the range TV in the LG OLED range. The dead TV was the Samsung Flagship model - their best TV - in 2018. I'm not disappointed in the "downgrade". *Mrs Z likes the sleek modern look and thinks we should consider new lounge furniture - doh! I also want to use the desk for a few projects in the spring. I once had a cantilever one for use with a 40" older tech screen (quite heavy). It was only a single arm, but despite using huge bolts, constantly swinging the screen around eventually caused it to leave the wall (actually precipitated because I'd put the upper bolt too near a window sill and the plaster have way!). It was already starting to sag a bit. That one which screws into two walls would be a much more suitable idea. As would the idea of getting a standard VESA stand - I was really limited on TV choice when we last bought because the cabinet it stands on doesn't have the width for "legs apart". Didn't think of getting a VESA stand, but the TV we ended up with is pretty good so I'm not so bothered. Reply to this message | Report message

I have been checking my credit card account online and the supplier hasn't credited me for the unit that wasn't delivered to me, but has charged me again for the replacement!!! Quick call to them and it transpires that they don't credit until the goods are returned to them - well that's going to be unlikely. I pointed out that they haven't delivered the set to me. They delivered it to the wrong house. Foreign call center person couldn't quite comprehend the situation. I contacted the credit card co. They said wait a bit - but I need to be conscious of the time limits for charge backs. This is going to be fun - not! Been following a TV repair guy on YT, and he basically reckons nearly all new tv’s are rubbish, and to only buy from John Lewis or Richer Sounds, as they come with a longer warranty, that you may well need. Following my satellite woes, I ordered an own brand TV from a supplier here that comes with a 10 years warranty. We’ll see if it’s needed or not. Reply to this message | Report message

I did too Bobby. Ours is a 42 inch LG and it started going dark about 18 months in. I rang JL and got the usual " Can't do anything about it ,sir ". At that point I brought up Section 75 and they couldn't be more helpful. I told them I knew LG fitted crap backlights and I wanted a quality one fitting. It was duly collected and came back a few days later. They must have done what i asked as it has been fine for years now. Luckily, my monitor is our old telly, a 32 inch Bravia and I was able to use this while the LG was in hospital. A spare 15 inch monitor satisfied the PC's needs A 77 inch one ???? Last TV repair was 1994 - TV was faultless. However eldest son, coming back from 1 year work experience, bundled the TV into his car and broke the on/off switch. No TV repair man needed in 40+ years - buy a good brand. Keep it until I/we agree a new TV is needed, say 7-10 years. Current TV is 4K Panasonic and 10 years old (was some £1200 in John Lewis post Xmas clearance). Genuine Panasonic (unlike the entry levels made in Turkey by Vestel and rebadged as any name required - Panasonic, Toshiba, JVC, Currys own brand etc etc) IMHO it's new TV time and in negotiations with SWMBO (might take some time) - Quote " It runs perfectly, colour good, soundbar good, a bigger one is not needed......" You have no obligation to send them back to the company or to pay for them" I was thinking in term of Theft under the 68 Theft Act, but it falls at the first hurdle: A person is guilty of theft if he dishonestly appropriates property Belonging to another With the intention of permanently depriving the other of it; And “thief” and “steal” shall be construed accordingly. They didn't 'dishonestly appropriate' because it was delivered to their door. I'd argue that as soon as they realised that the parcel wasn't for them they should have made steps to return. There might well be no obligation to send them back, but I think you are obliged to inform the seller so that they can arrange collection. Back in the 80s or 90s I received a Spectrum add-on keyboard which I'd not ordered - about £80 worth IIRC. I did quite a bit of digging then to find out my "rights". It was to contact the company and allow them reasonable access time to retrieve it, but as I recall it could have included them providing a paid return label and some compo for my inconvenience posting it. All had to happen with a 3 month (or was it 6?) period. Anyway they never got back to me so I kept it. And it wasn't much good actually :-) Reply to this message | Report message

I would consider dropping the recipients a letter regarding the issue and generalising that you are trying to trace the parcel and wonder if they have any information that would assist you attempting to resolve the issue before having to report to the Police. Let down again ! Expecting an Amazon yesterday, I was disappointed when it never came. No problem though, it wasn't urgent. Fast forward until this morning, my bride had got up before me and on the kitchen draining board was stood a very wet Amazon parcel slowly disintegrating. A check on the Ring door camera showed that it had been delivered at 1530 the day before. Just left on the doorstep in full view of the footpath. We had had no reason to go outside until bedtime. There was no doorbell activity, the guy just threw it onto the step without even reaching up to press the bell push, of which there are two. The dog would have gone bananas if he had done. Fang had found it when she brought the milk in. I'm surprised it was still there, covered with snow ! We were both in at the time of delivery ! Good job it was stuff that was impervious to the wet and only £15 worth. Surely this has got to stop sometime. Ordinary people (me) have spent good money and drivers are putting goods at risk of damage or theft on a regular basis. I will be filling in the Amazon response appropriately,,,for all the good it will do. Overworked drivers and uncaring bosses seem to be the order now. Ted Reply to this message | Report message

Exactly this. My email is usually through before the van engine has restarted. Similar thing happened to my dad yesterday. I got email through for a delivery to him. Indeed, My emails only come through on my PC due to some hacker months ago. I have been trying to resolve this but always get through to an Asian, who I cannot understand and wants more security than I can remember...probably including a blood sample ! I did have Amazon mails in the evening on the PC but I had been expecting other items which had arrived. I wasn't expecting this stuff for a few days. Looking on my account today, I saw that the parcel had been left in or near our greenhouse. Strange, we don't have one...especially in the front garden ! Had to ring Tesco Bank today as I was trying to log in and all I got was " access denied " Got through quickly enough and then my heart sank...I got a Scottie ! Nice enough guy but spoke too quickly for my hearing aids and was largely non understandable to me. I gleaned the information that they were having trouble with Firefox servers. I only wanted to know my credit card balance, I had a good idea that I was in credit by about £25, which he confirmed. After a load of stuff which I didn't make out properly, We left it that he would get a paper statement to me, which will solve my problem until they solve theirs !
