Having made several unsuccessful attempts to open an account on Itunes (They are harder to break into than the Kremlin) I'm looking for an alternative. I need to be able to buy and download songs to burn onto a CD. I'm not interested in any sort of streaming.
Any recommendations?

If you want something outside the usual "platform" infrastructures, you might look at:
uk.7digital.com/
which I've used for downloads, and has a reasonably eclectic catalogue (in MP3 and higher resolution).

RR, can’t help with your query, but curious as to the circumstances?
Are you looking to make a compilation CD for a relative or something?
I have Spotify that I can download from but I think that just allows me to play it when offline, I don’t actually own it.
iTunes would be the one I thought that you could buy and “own” and then use software on laptop to download to CD?

Following up to the above. I use 7Digital because it allows me to download (CD quality) Flac (for streaming from my NAS). Generally, MP3 downloads from there are cheaper.
But, though I've never used it for download, if MP3 is sufficient, then Amazon might be an option.

No, I'm looking to make them for myself.
