We have a V8 stick Dyson which is acting up a bit. I think it is just the head (which I can obvs replace) but atm the filters are drying so I can't test it.
Either was it's pretty old (as things go these days) and we have a second Xiaomi one which is pretty useless, so we're likely in the market for at least one replacement.
We don't need two batteries. It needs to be a cordless stick, and fairly light ( - next door have a Vax which they think is heavy), and as it's for use on carpets it needs to suck well.
So does anyone have any suggestions please? No particular ceiling on cost but I don't think we'd "get" paying more than say £400 for such an item (especially as we may need a second one)!!

Went through the exact same issue, my V8 had intermittent fault. Bought new trigger and took it apart a few times but just couldn’t get it going.
Eventually replaced with a V11 from Costco on offer.
Quite often on offers and just watch what fittings come with the package you select.

A "cordless stick"?
Get a proper vacuum cleaner, for goodness' sake - one that professionals use: a Henry. You won't even need to pay anywhere near £400.
P.S. I'd never touch a Dyson again. Far too much time spent on washing and drying filters and cleaning out tangles in the pickup heads.

I have a Samsung "jet" that I got at Costco. It replaced a dyson, and makes the Dyson look like badly built fragile tat.

The Factory Shop will be reducing the price of a Belday stick vac from £99.99 to around fifty quid on Black Friday. No idea what they are like but I've had one of their little hand helds in the past and it was very good.
|
The Sammy gets decent reviews and the 95E can be had for £199 atm, which seems a good price.
I'm thinking we'll get one of those, try it out and if it is good, get another. But I have to wait for approval from on high - and she's out right now :-)
I know price proves nothing but I guess £50 may not be as sucky as a more pricey one.
btw we have no need for a pet attachment, and it must be cordless. I forgot those in the 2st post!!

We have a Shark. Been very good. Well engineered. I like how it all fits together so perfectly. Does everything we ask of it. Would buy another. A bit pricey but you get what you pay for.

To be annoying and not answer the question:)
We've gone back to a proper vac. Sebo Felix with powered head. You need a stairs tool and an extension hose then you're more or less set. I think they only make vacuums and it shows.
We had numerous vacs. An ancient Panasonic upright with knocking bearings I use for the car (can't get these any more or we would), a stove/ash vac, a Henry she doesn't like because it falls over and a Miele pull-along that somebody threw out, but is nice and quiet and good for :dusting'. None would do everything well. We once had a battery one (G tech?) but it wasn't man enough for proper cleaning. I'm not spending £100s on battery toys.
The Sebo does everything if you have the right attachments, bar liquids of course. We have a lot of tiles and wooden floors, you just turn the powered beater off. Variable suction is good for thin rugs. Filtration is excellent (I'm sensitive to dust). It found a fair bit of fluff and detritus in our carpets that the others had left in there. Durability-wise I think it will see.me out.
The Dyson ball we had before the fire was ok but a faff. The Sebo bags are much better for emptying than the no-bag kind.

She won't have corded. (We have Henry if necessary I suppose).
I have gone for the Samsung Z mentioned above. Looking at pricing I don't think I'd find it cheaper anywhere even on Black Friday!!

I borrow the “Henry” to vacuum out the cars approximately each equinox and solstice. Otherwise, I don’t like to interfere with such matters. Don’t have a dog and bark yourself do you?
;-)
|
Interesting... sounds like a common issue as my 'older' Dyson is showing exactly the same symptoms - intermittent loss of power to the brush head - let go of the trigger and squeeze again and it runs for 30 seconds - the handle gives me a blister at my base of thumb if I use for any length of time - it's still ok for doing the car with the crevice tool though.

Too busy attending to her chores…

We considered a re-chargeable stick and rejected it, as we'd heard of so many batteries failing after two years. Whats wrong with a corded stick?
We've a corded Miele and a robot (bungalow, so it can't fall down the stairs). The robot does six days a week and I use the Miele on the seventh.

I think it was on this site that somebody posted the unforgettable line of
"I love my Dyson, I can always get the spares I need".
I am not sure that is even true since all manufacturing outsourced to Far East!
Overpriced , overhyped product, supported by wonderful marketing b*******.
My Tapo RV30+ Robot is great, and it does it does not even attempt tp fall down stairs!

We have now ended up with four machines. A Miele Cat and Dog which we us downstairs, a Shark for the stairs and upstairs carpets, a Henry for DIY, greenhouse and car and a small rechargeable Panasonic Handhelcd for the bedding . I think that covers all bases.
|
Thought you hated cats and dogs? Is the Miele used to gather them up and dump them in the dustbin?
|
We had a cat for many years, well actually 5 different ones. Not had one for ten years now. I don’t hate cats or dogs but I do believe there are far too many of both especially since multiple ownership of the things became popular, I have three neighbours with six dogs and four cats between them.
Like cars Ithink there should be a one per household rule.

>>I have three neighbours with six dogs and four cats between them.
Since moving 'ere 2 years ago, the number of, um, dogs have increased by 10, that's in addition to the ones which were already here. This is just a small hamlet (Bolventor). One woman (why is it always wimin?) has 4 dogs FFS, another one has 3 dogs, another one has 2 dogs.
One new arrival was a Cane Corso - he (orf lead) attacked my 9 year old (on lead) English Pointer, just as well I was wearing my size 10 Zamberlans!!
Moving into deepest-darkest North Cornwall at the end of this month, neighb has a cat, so we'll see howl that goes.

Approx. a month ago I got a great deal on a FixtFixer X6-P from TEMU.
It was listed as £72, but I had a couple of "credit back" offers from previous orders, and a further "credit back" on the FixtFixer (£40). I ended up paying just £18 for it.
I've never heard of FixtFixer before, and have no idea what the spare parts availability is like, apart from I can see that you can get replacement filters for them.
Exact same model cordless vacuum cleaner on Amazon is £99.
www.amazon.co.uk/FixtFixer-Cordless-Cleaner-Powerful-Lightweight/dp/B0DCFYR96L/
Talking of TEMU, I have no idea how they make any money. Before buying the cordless vacuum cleaner, I bought a cordless hammer drill with 2 batteries and case for £42, with £40 credit back, basically the drill cost me £2. If the price drops within 30 days of purchase, you can claim that back too. The price dropped to £34. So, not only did I end up getting the drill for free, TEMU paid me £8 as well.

I've been tempted to dip my toe in TEMU water, but wonder about how long delivery takes. Is it a slow boat from China?
|
I use AliExpress for a lot of electronics stuff and it's usually 8 days. In fact if it says 8 days and it's late you get some cfredit.

Usually 5 to 7 days. If they fail to meet target deadlines (IIRC over 10 days), then you'll receive £4 as way of an apology.
Some of the larger stuff is shipped from UK outlets though. In the case of the recent vacuum cleaner I bought, that came from Birmingham within 2 days of ordering. My cordless leaf blower came from Enfield, London. Again within 2 days of ordering.
What with free delivery, and free returns (in some cases, if the order is of low value, then they'll tell you to keep it and still refund you), it's a no brainer.
Granted, there is a lot of tat on there, but there is also a lot of good stuff at lower prices than Amazon, etc.

I bought an item at 87p a bit over a week ago. it hasn't turned up yet so they've credited me with £1 (AliExpress). Money for old rope... :-)
Some mudflaps arrived for my new motor today, just under a tenner. They were posted in Essex!!
