 Oil Crisis - CGNorwich
Bought a litre of olive oil this morning - £11! Seems there’s an international shortage.

Just checked the bottle - it’s not even a litre - only 750ml!

I guess you don't buy it that often then. Last year's harvest sent the price rocketing.

The good news is that it is apparently set to fall as Spanish harvest is good this year.

We only use olive oil for dressings so a bottle lasts ages. We don’t do much frying but when we do we use rapeseed oil. It’s cheaper, British sourced and more stable than olive when heated.
I can’t recall our most recent prices paid but LIDL is a lot cheaper than Waitrose and seems good quality.

Same here, 1L of rapeseed is about a fiver.

I’ll check out prices in Spanish supermarkets…I’ve been told that ‘Stardrops’ is not available in uk, but is in Spain.
Is that true ?

Maybe, but don't cook with it!

A couple of years ago there was a mustard crisis in France. The wholegrain stuff my OH likes was limited to one jar per customer but in practice it was never even on the shelf.

Driving back Competa > Moraira (CBlanca) on the scenic motorway route skirting North of Granada.
Hotel services/ cafeteria selling locally produced Extra Virgin olive oil @ €19.90 for 2 litres… plastic jars, home made labels. Bought a couple as did my Spanish Residencia friends whom I was with.
I’m assuming that’s cheaper than supermarket prices, and nice to support a local producer near Guadix.

Isn't the olive harvest season back end of Sept/ Oct ? In Greece once the season was over hotel staff moved on to olive harvesting.
