It's become obvious that a large part of St Leonards is no longer getting daily mail deliveries and it's been that way for some time. Is this more widespread?
Post Office mail deliveries - Bromptonaut
Not noticed myself but people in the village assert that it is happening.

Most post boxes now have only one collection around 09:30. If I need to post stuff out to clients and it's urgent I need to go to the Post Office.

Not sure if it’s widespread but Royal Mail have been looking at changing daily deliveries of second class mail to every other day. To be honest we have so little physical mail of any consequence this would not concern me at all. Daily mail delivery, like banks cash and Post Offices,is ultimately unsustainable and therefore doomed.

We seem to get several letters every few days - I think they save them up.

I'd have agreed that they are stacking it up, that's def how it feels, except I see the postie out and about in our road most days so he must be doing something!!

The postman is still marching up and down my street every day, important stuff is being delivered quickly, the crap arrives in sporadic batches, its all working fine for me. At the end of the day, volumes of mail are through the floor in these modern electronic times and I guess that colours our perceptions.

Do you still get much signigicant stuff through the mail? Been trying to think what the last important thing was; a new credit card I think. Practically everything like utility bills and bank statements now electronic. Nobody sends letters anymore, postcards a thing of the past.

Last bit of mail I had was a questionnaire the other day from the council because I had a bout of upset stomach which dragged on and ended up with a poop scoop and test, which showed I had campylobactor, which seems to be notifiable. I fully recovered over a week ago so couldn't answer all the questions about what I'd had for each meal for the week before its onset but I managed those about where we been, with who and where we'd eaten out (and what I'd had). All a bit of a drag.

It's become very sporadic in our village. With the exception of advert leaflets for dominoes pizza, double glazing and the like. Of which I gather the postal service receive something like 1 or 2p per leaflet delivered from the advertiser?

Business post is delivered first, then residential later. We used to get our mail by 10am, now it can vary anytime between 2 and 5pm, and I agree with Zippy, I think they save it up so can deliver in bulk.

Same here a letter famine for days then a load gets delivered. To be fair, Mrs RP's car paind for last Friday V5 delivered yesterday, just in time to do her reg transfer before the car was delivered. Brilliant service.

Mail volumes have declined from 20bn per annum in 2005 to 8bn today.

No surprise - email and internet have taken over most business, personal and financial communication. The price of a 1st class stamp has increased from 30p to £1.35 - outstripping normal inflation by 2.6 times.

As an organisation whose business has contracted very significantly over a long period:

- they are almost certainly carrying huge excess capacity in staff and infrastructure
- spare capacity means that delivery performance could be very good
- average age of staff increased - low recruitment and a reluctance for redundancies
- their service commitment - every day + all addresses - is increasingly unaffordable
- there is no prospect of increased mail volumes, save discounted junk mail delivery

They are currently under offer from a potential buyer. I don't understand why anyone would want a failing business with its associated obligations - it needs a radical rethink. Perhaps there are assets (land, buildings, etc), or pension fund obligations (huge) to strip.

Rather sad for Royal Mail staff for whom I have some sympathy - our local posties all seem very decent folk.

I read that the potential new owners have agreed to continue daily deliveries. Not sure it's open ended though, maybe for a specific period.

We get a delivery from the postman every morning, letters are delivered quickly that we need. No real complaints here.

I suspect that because I've opted out of spam mail. I get very little post. Doesn't stop the postie dropping lots of junk through my letterbox every time I do have 'real' letters.

We made a trip to see a postbox yesterday. Took photos and everything. And on return, Mrs C’s monthly magazine had arrived, which always cheers her up.

A good postal day, especially as the postbox is right outside a nice cafe where they introduced me to an alcohol free barraquito coffee, which was exceeding pleasant.

Our postie delivered 8 letters just after 13:00 today (no circulars).

I don't think they were all posted at the same time because two of the letters related to an account which included the introduction letter and the security details - which are usually sent out separately

That's exactly the scenario which keeps happening to me.

They are, two separate letters that you got, and they are often dispatched from source at the same time.

For clarification the letters come from my employer and I was at HO today.

They were secure documents part one and part two. They are expected to be delivered separately.

So I checked with the system and it confirmed when the letters were ordered. They were ordered on the same day, but they are not supposed to be delivered the same day.

We use a secure mail printer (a supplier ) to print and send our letters.

My manager took interest in this as the same process is used to send details to client business who can move a fortune around in a matter of seconds.

We went to the team responsible and they were able to drill down to the file sent to the secure printer and because they use our account with the RM, the batch they were posted on and even the image of the letter sent. Letter 1 was sent on the 29th July. Letter 2 was sent on the 1st, with the printer missing their target. (They provide real time KPI and that batch was on the report as late so they are telling the truth.)

The ops people thin the letters have been incorrectly treated as second class. I like to think more simply, it’s school holidays and posties are on their holibobs - post gets delayed.

At work we're using an RM business account to send out small parcels and large letters on the Tracked 24 service. Their sales rep assured us that the highest priority is given to Tracked 24 items sent using business accounts. To be fair we are seeing 98%-99% next-day delivery success, even on Saturdays, and to all postcodes including the Highlands, Isle of Wight and Channel Islands. I guess this is where the profit is.

Posted a letter first class on Monday from Sussex to Kent. It got there today!

(Personal letter sent to a RM sorting centre manager - who will admit that it is a dreadful place to work - bullying is rife.)

Twice recently, a letter sent to me, RM 1st Class Signed For, from a UK bank has taken over a week to arriive.

Letter sent by my solicitor on Friday second class, arrived Monday at the address written on the envelope, problem was that wasn't the address where we live. Facebook sorted the problem and I collected the obviously opened envelope containing a cheque for just shy of £3000.00 (error number one by solicitor) got an e-mailed apology. P*** poor really. Well done to Royal Mail though.

Our regular Postie tips up this morning (Sun 22nd) with a small parcel. "What you doing in on a Sunday?" says I. "Money is in parcels now" says he.
Parcel dispatched 48hr tracked last Wednesday, the 18th, so time wise they failed miserably :(
