 Pumpkins - bathtub tom
A BBC news item reports a 500 acre pumpkin patch in Lincolnshire:

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-11450538

I know this is a drop in the ocean of farmland in the UK, but I recall a story about us importing more food than at any time in out history. How many more acres are growing 'decorative' pumpkins?

I eat quite a lot of pumpkins cee'ds to help protect my prostate (Zinc),
They are a welcome crop as I prefer to buy British.
I think that field looks quite interesting, like Rape and Lincee'd.

I have some every morning with my breakfast. Very nice, too.

There was a colour photo of a 230-kilo giant pumpkin in the local rag here the other day. And the English lady across the road, an old friend actually, gave us some very good peppery pumpkin soup she had made the night before last.

Alas we are leaving tomorrow though. Back to the dour British media and no large, cheap jars of excellent fish soup in the supermarket fridge any more, garlic croutons and bob's your uncle....

Talking about big pumpkins, reminds me of my German byrd,

She used to make a luvly butternut squash soup.

Cut and de-seed your BNS, drizzle with olive oil, and bake in the oven till soft. (bout 40 mins at 190)
Gently Fry in butter some sliced celery, leek, carrot, shalots till soft.
peel and boil your spuds till soft,
peel your tomatoes.

Throw the lot in a liquidiser, till smooth

Thin to desired consitency with vegetable stock. season with salt & pepper

Serve chilled or warm, with chopped coriander and some cream swirled in.

...peel your tomatoes...

Which is easier to do if you chuck 'em into a bowl of hot water for a minute or so first.

Then blanch them in chilled water.

Forgot to mention, the soup (pre thinning with veg stock) makes a great basis for a fish pie, Chuck in some prawns, muscles, and haddock/coley, cover with mash and bake.

Thanks Z, we'll give that a go tomorrow, but I'll reduce the temp for a fan oven.

Pat,

Maybe we do, maybe don't.

But if you want to be treated equally in a male-dominated world, why shouldn't we rattle the pots and pans?

Equality comes in many forms, you can't just pick out the bits you like.

Anyway, you're not being entirely serious.

As you are off to work this morning, I hope Mr pda will have lunch on the table when you get back.
