I guess they had to rent the site at about £100 a month and of course make the sign.

A pilot told me he once landed a private plane on a grass strip near Leighton Buzzard. Because he had flown in from France, customs had to be informed so they were present when he landed.

He reckoned that designated it as Leighton Buzzard international airport.
