Chosen as "Sweet Caroline" by Neil Diamond.
Why? I mean firstly why do we need a song at all, and secondly Why "Sweet Caroline"
We had one Queen Caroline for a year in 1820, and what an ugly munter she was

God it was bad enough when they used it as the English Euro's football tune!
I was going to start a thread about local road closures for 'street parties' over the celebrations... we had letter through the box saying our dead-end road is going to be closed for most of the 4th due a street party... great but I have things planned on that day so I could be stuck... can local residents close their own road just like that?
|
Do you not socialise or interact with your neighbours, or have no idea what's going on in your own community?
Anyway you won't be stuck because you've got a letter warning you about it so can work around it.
I think rules were relaxed for the Jubilee to allow as many street parties to go ahead as they could. My road couldn't be closed because it's a through bus route apparently but ones around the estate are.
Cheer up, at least it'll be a little while before the next 70th royal jubilee :-)

Herts County Council say
You can apply to Herts County Council to close your road for a Jubilee street party here. Street parties are intended to be small events attended only by people living in the immediate vicinity, they must be free to attend and it's a good idea to consult with your neighbours before you apply.
You can't really have a street party without closing the street.
The next village to ours has a through road and they've got permission to close that.

Just wish that they had picked one of the BH's and not the Saturday, we have loads of delivery vans hurtling up and down, doing U turns on our drives, I think we could have issues...
|
You could be lucky, it might P down.

Queen Caroline was quite a character. She would have been a sensation on social media. Despised by her husband the Prince of Wales later to become George IV and loved by the mob her behaviour became ever more outrageous including dancing near naked at dinner parties.
She was refused admission to her husband’s coronation and the doors of Westminster Abbey were closed in her face as she shouted “let me in I’m the Queen of England.
Worth celebrating in song surely.
|
I like her already..
No road closures here, the large private school around the corner from us has a giant Union flag on display ad that's about it.

>> Worth celebrating in song surely.
Sold it to me.
|
And we thought lady Di was a difficult phenomena.
|
There is already a song they could use, without thinking of another one.

We head down to Yorkshire tomorrow for a weeks holiday to a farm cottage. They have a Facebook page.
Today on their FB page they had pictures of Union Jack banners they have placed in the cottage to “Jubilee” it for their guests arriving tomorrow.
I had to message them nicely and explain we were not royalists and if they had better use for the flags then feel free to take them away again.
To which they replied “neither are we” but felt we had to be seen to do something!! So they will be removed again! :)
Must admit the Jubilee never crossed my mind when we booked this holiday in England!

BAH HUMBUG, You should have been refused entry at the border.

>> We head down to Yorkshire tomorrow.
We're travelling in the opposite direction bound for the Western Isles. Booked too late to get direct to Harris on Saturday so will be leaving Ullapool for Stornoway arriving in out cottage outside Tarbert late evening.
Hopefully we'll bypass the Jubilee in its entirety as on her 50th when we were also up there.

Brompt, every time you go up there I get insanely jealous.
Was supposed to finally get my belated birthday present last year of flying into Barra but covid put paid to that!

Wensleydale looked totally stunning this afternoon under the blue skies and bright sunshine as we rode West to East along its length.
As opposed to earlier when we round around Windermere and Coniston as it rained heavily and under misty grey skies.

...shouldn't worry, Bobby. It being Yorkshire they won't have been "bought special". They'll be the ones left over from the coronation, and will have been trotted out on every tenuously appropriate occasion since....

I'm not bothered about the jubilee to be honest.
I'm not that enamoured with the whole Royalty thing though I think the Queen and Prince Philip have put in a lot of work. Some of their children leave a lot to be desired.
Mrs Z likes them and Miss Z did the DOE and went, with Mrs Z, to a garden party at Buckenham Palace hosted by one of the Queen's children, whom they said was very pleasant and spent time fairly with guests their.
Anyway, it's mother in law's 90th on the 3rd and we will be celebrating that with a nice spread in the garden if the weather is good, with family and friends.
(Luckily MIL is one of the good ones.)

Not really worthy of its own thread but here is info on the Jubilee flypast

Having planned and plotted to film one of these before, The map is misleading. There are lots of catchment, assembly queuing and dispersal areas that mean you wont see anything like the full show.
Without going into london, the best place is a Hill in Kelveden Hatch, Essex.

That's where that secret cold war bunker is isn't it?
|
Dunno, its a secret.
Yeah, Its worth a trip, Its pretty complete with lots of kit in there.

How environmentally unfriendly.
And there was me thinking at least one of the Royal Family (Prince Charles) was keen on saving the planet!!
